About Me

heatheryarnell.com . orphanedapparel.com . serendipity-media.net
I'm off on the winding roads of a Victorian village, seeking inspiration.
Will return when it finds me.
Who.
I'm a multi-tasking Missouri-based 24-year-old masquerading as a 12-year-old. To be more specific, I'm a photographer, web designer, owner of the vintage boutique Orphaned Apparel and the founder of Serendipity Media , a music site where I review albums and interview my favorite artists, including Sleeping at Last, Eisley and Mew. I enjoy the finer things in life, like the noises my pets make when they're happy, toilets that don't overflow, staying up all night, sleeping all day, and swaying back and forth to the song in my head.
What.
My eye is drawn to nature's unending miracles, from the tiny to the tremendous, as well as the grandeur of urban decay: abandoned buildings, timeworn cemeteries and centuries-old antique architecture.
Why.
Hand-feeding giraffe, walking down Spring Street, rolling around on the ground with kittens, creeping through overgrown areas in chase of dragonflies (even if that sometimes means coming home wearing jeans infested with chiggers and other glorious little hitchhikers), reaching twelve thousand feet elevation in Rocky Mountain National Park and discovering just how scared of heights I am, serendipitous discoveries.
If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; blame yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches; for the Creator, there is no poverty.
(Rainer Maria Rilke)

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet:
People who brake for squirrels. This is really more for me than you, since my top friends list has a habit of randomly combusting on me:
Adam , Aedan , Alexis , Andrew , Ashley , Beth , Dave , Douglas , Ellen , Emily , Erika , Fabianna , Ismael , Jacob , Jan , Jen , Kamber , Karen , Letica , Lydia , Miguel , Rachel , Rad , Rico , Sophia , Stephanie (And this is under construction by a girl with a pretty crappy memory. Don't get your nighty in a knot if you're not here yet. ;-)

Music:

"If you was hit by a truck and you was lyin' out there in that gutter dyin' and you had time to sing one song. One song that people would remember before you're dirt. One song that would let God know how you felt about your time here on Earth. One song that would sum you up. You tellin' me that's the song you'd sing? That same Jimmy Davis tune we hear on the radio all day about your peace within and how it's real and how you're gonna shout it? Or would you sing somethin' different? Somethin' real. Somethin' you felt. 'Cause I'm tellin' you right now, that's the kind of song people want to hear. That's the kind of song that truly saves people. It ain't got nothin' to do with believin' in God, Mr. Cash. It has to do with believin' in yourself." Over the Rhine, Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, Patty Griffin, The Clash, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Sleeping at Last, Neutral Milk Hotel, U2, Rufus Wainwright, Björk, Neko Case, Tom Waits, Vienna Teng, Jeff Buckley, Fiona Apple, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, The White Stripes, Morrissey, Sara Bareilles, Nickel Creek, Andrew Bird, Imogen Heap, Ron Sexsmith, Anberlin, The Flaming Lips, Beth Hart, Danny Elfman, Rilo Kiley, The Shins, Dead Poetic, The Cardigans, Sufjan Stevens, Tori Amos, Midlake, Lovedrug, Queen, Eisley, Bad Religion, Depeche Mode, Amy Winehouse, Mew, Mandy Moore, Pilotdrift, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, Damien Rice, Sigur Rós, The Dresden Dolls, Modest Mouse, The Who, Richard Swift, Green Day, Antony and the Johnsons, Vanessa Carlton, Jimmy Eat World, Coldplay, Marc Broussard, The Beatles...

Movies:

Spare me the romantic comedies. Those of you who'd ever willingly sit through Maid in Manhattan again, I judge you! (Kidding, kinda...) I haven't seen as many movies as I'd like to say I have, but a few favorites include Anne of Green Gables, Moulin Rouge, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Forrest Gump, Shaun of the Dead, The Green Mile, Walk the Line, The Lord of the Rings, Amadeus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Shawshank Redemption, The Sixth Sense and Donnie Darko.

Television:

The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, Friends, Roseanne, South Park. I never remember to watch anything though.

Books:

"The best books, he perceived, are those that tell you what you know already."

Heroes:

"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward. Maybe they have to be crazy. How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels? We make tools for these kinds of people. Where some people see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."
