05.31.2006 - Recently I headed up a team for the 48 Hour Film competition. Our team put together an excellent short film in one weekend which won Best Film of Houston, in addition to many categories, such as best script, best acting, best editing, and others. View it and get more info here .

I love creativity - I like being creative and surrounding myself with creative people. I am a huge fan and supporter of local performers - actors, comedians and musicians. Many of my friends are involved in some aspect of performance or entertainment. When I have the time, I try to attend the shows my friends are involved in. I highly recommend checking out the local folks for several reasons. First and foremost is that Houston has a lot of talented people. It generally costs a lot less to see local people/acts than it does to see nationally-known ones. The venues tend to be less packed - you get a better view of the performance.
That being said, I'm very into live theatre. I like to watch it. I like to star in it. I like to direct it. Basically, I'm into most aspects of the theatre. Most recently, I was the stage manager for Enron - The Musical (2006).
I've been fairly involved with the community theatre scene here in Houston. At Company Onstage , I was a cast member of Aladdin & the Wonderful Lamp (2003) and played Kate in Romantic Comedy (2003/04). At Playhouse 1960 I was Angie in Breaking Legs (2003) and Tansy in The Nerd (2005). Additionally, I portrayed Louise in Coming Back To Jersey in the Festival of Originals (2005) at Theatre Southwest . After that, I was Gwendolyn Pigeon in The Odd Couple (2006) at the Earnest Holley Memorial Theater .
Theatre Suburbia is where I've had my most varied experience. I first worked there as Sound & Light Technician for Could Angels Be Blessed (2003) and Deadwood Dick (2003). Then I found myself onstage playing Jane Ellen/Janie (multiple personalities) in The Illustrated Woman (2004) and Georgine in Cabin Fever (2004). Trying something a little different, I was assistant director for The Eight Order (2005) and followed that up by directing The Joker Fired Twice (2005). Then I lent a hand during rehearsals for Miz Lena's Backyard (2006) and then let myself get dragged into doing Lights & Sound for it at the last minute. Most recently, I had the lead as Susan Strathcona in Any Body Home? (2006)
I also used to work on the variety show Texas Live in a vareity of roles. I was production manager for a couple of years, as well as an actress and hostess. Additionally, I've worked on a few short films.
I love comedies, the darker the better. I also like weird quirky movies and have a fondness for the inane.
The last "best movie I'd seen in a while" was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind . Other great movies within the last several years that pop to mind include: Happy Accidents , Bad Santa , Donnie Darko , Being John Malkovich . And, of course, anything Kevin Smith does.
And last, but not least, is Chrono Crusade ~ of course, I may be a bit biased as I had a role in this one.
I love to read, but find I don't have much time for it these days. My current favorite authors are Tom Robbins and Kurt Vonnegut . My favorite books by these authors are Jitterbug Perfume (TR) and The Sirens of Titan (KV).
I recently finished reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire . It's what the musical with the same name is based on (although I haven't gotten to see it yet). I really enjoyed and recommend it. I liked it so much that I bought another of his books so I'm currently reading Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister . It's okay so far, but I'm not enjoying it as much as I did the other.
Oh, geez, who has time for TV these days? Given my simultaneous lack of time and lack of decent reception, I don't generally get too much television-watching done. There are, however, some shows I like to check out when I have the time and means.
I'm a big fan of the funny, so it should come as no surprise that I like comedies. I like sit-coms; unfortunately it seems as though the air waves are currently overrun with mediocre ones (that is when you can escape the bombardment of reality shows).
I'm particularly fond of Brit-coms ( Are You Being Served , Keeping Up Appearances , Fawlty Towers , etc.). My all time favorite is Red Dwarf .
My favorite recent sit-com is Arrested Development . Other goodies are Malcom in the Middle and Scrubs .
I'm also into the animated shows geared towards the older audience - no, not anime porn. Included in my favorites are South Park , The Simpsons , King of the Hill .
I'm a huge fan of The Daily Show - it's my only source for news of what's going on in the world (yes, I know, that's sad). Unfortunately, I am currently cable-less, so I don't even get that, but you know what they say - no news is good news...
And last but not least are the sketch comedy shows. MadTV rules!!
