“1964 was for my parents and myself a special year, because it was the year that i was born.” With a joking smile on his face DJ Cosmic Tantra starts the conversation. in actuality he was born with the legal name of Jens-Peter Kadelka. Growing up in the fairy-tale town of Hameln, worldwide known for his Pied-Piper, he realized already in his early years that something special caught his interest which should influence his life – music and spirituality. This is not only reflected in his way of thinking and dealings but especially in the way how he presents his music: colourful, joyful and obviously with a lot of fun.Already at the age of 7 he started to collect record-albums and created his own compilations. And already at that time it was important to him that the different tracks would match harmonically with each other. “Of course, i also went through different phases. At first there was the time of glitter-rock with groups like the sweet and of course a little later kiss. But at the same time i was fascinated by classical music and symphonic film-music. A fascination that has lasted to this day. After a short heavy metal phase came the time of electronic music – of course invoked by Kraftwerk and Gary Numan. Approximately at that time Cosmic Tantra moved for 2 years to Saudi Arabia, due to the professional assignment of his father. “This period till today counts amongst the best time of my life... the Saudis are lovely people, open-minded, courteous, and without malice. Of course there are exceptions. But their strong faith alone gives them so much equilibrium. That’s what they share with many asian peoples. And in the desert you learn to seek and to cherish live. This time of my life has shaped me deeply!”Back in germany he finished his schooling and started an apprenticeship in a zoological specialty store. “This was the only profession that i could relate to, to work with living creatures. Strangely enough at that time i had no interest to work in a human-social context. That started at a later time.” The next coming years till 1993 he lived for a different sporting passion – till a heavy accident - luckily only financially – forced him to stop. Around this time the Goa-Scene took birth – and Cosmic Tantra was again captivated by music. “it was really crazy. This wacky sound including chirping and beeping, etc. All of it combined with a strong beat and at times a real melody. That captivated me totally. Added to this the people, which appeared like a big family that openly leaned towards the peace-generation and the flower-power-time. That was community for me. Of course i continued to make my own compilations but mixing (remixing) in my view was only for the professionals in the clubs.” 1994 he went for a job assignment to Ibiza. “Unfortunately not in the local discos. I was engaged as guide at a hotel. But of course there was also time to party. But somehow i could never really connect with the normal Disco-Scene.”Nevertheless he stuck around the DJs and observed them. “Some of them i found quite pleasant others rather annoying. When you get the feeling, that the DJ does not care for the people on the floor one should leave immediately, otherwise you get into a bad mood yourself...” Although he had a good sense or rhythm and a strong inclination for harmonic sounds. Another 5 years had to pass before DJ Cosmic Tantra took to djing himself. “it was the type of decision that seemed to be predestined” he recalls. “I was invited by a friend to be a guard at a solar-eclipse-party in Hungary, the Solipse 1999. Since at that time things weren’t working to well for me, i gladly accepted this chance to take a brake. Only after starting on the journey i learned that we were going to a Goa-Party and that my “Goa-God”, Tsuyoshi Suzuki, would also be there. I was totally beside myself and that was the end of my guard-job” he grinned. “After we returned a week later i bought myself a mixing table and started mixing myself. All my albums and CDs that i had collected over the years came in handy – and they still do today, since i still like to play tracks from the starting days. Important to me is that they fit harmonically with the total concept and the mood on the floor. And there are a lot of old pieces that you can always play again since they are timelessly good.This style has become my trademark. So to say a “Goa through the years”. In fact, i actually build up my sessions – like a good book: introduction, build-up, climax, final. I like to guide people a little bit, without overpowering them. I like to spend with them a beautiful weekend in the circle of peaceful, loving people. That, what i can contribute to it, i try to do as pleasantly and harmonically as possible – and that’s how it is going to remain in future.”
