About Me

My name is John Stockdale and I was born in Charleston, South Carolina, but grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I began being interested in music ever since I could remember. In 1992 I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to further pursue a music education. I graduated and immediately began gigging all over Atlanta with sometimes three different bands per week, teaching more than 60 students per week as a 3rd. generation guitar teacher while writing my book, "Guitar Explorer" which I still sell to my students. Playing, performing live and writing anything eventually led me to a cool group called Mandorico. After a successful live audition I quickly quit my teaching jobs and bands after 7 years. A new adventure began. Sharing the stage with various national and international acts including the late Tito Puente, The Wailers, Celia Cruz, Smashmouth, Rehab, UB40, Foo Fighters, Toots and the Maytals, and countless others, was a whirlwind learning experience. Eighteen months and countless highway miles later, our third album album was proudly produced : FLAMATAM! I left Mandorico soon after to pursue a guitar teaching position at my uncle's school here in Charleston, Leonard School of Music.Through word of mouth, I began gigging again starting in a pool hall in West Ashley. Performing in one place led to another, and another, and so it goes again. Now settled back in Charleston, SC, and educated by family, schools, and the road, I have CDs under my belt, with others coming soon. I'm constantly writing music and perform live almost every night now, for your entertainment. Hope you enjoy the music on my sites and thanx again for supporting live-local music!!Other myspace websites that John Stockdale has : acoustic instrumental classical guitar original electric guitar

Sounds Like: Serve your soul. Study yourself. Do something then learn what you did. Focus on what you're doing to the point it becomes unconscious. Know why you practice. Compete with yourself. The only opponent is within. Acquire the technique you need and no more.See both hands as one. Push hard against your limits and learn them well.Know when building up sometimes means means tearing down. Get to the bottom of your song and from that learn ten thousand things. Put your ego in it's place. Never underestimate it's power to lead you astray. Measure a compliment the same as you measure a critique. Do not think you've arrived. Delete needless notes. Repeat: Delete needless notes. Paint with sound. Make the first take the best. You only get one. Strip away illusion. Retain the mystery.Offer your song freely.Make the deep changes.Play from the inside out, with a noble heart. Do not aim for transcendence through your song. Just play and let it come.Combine beauty with virtue...............................Awaken.

Practicing never ends.......no shortcuts.

I focus on what I play all the time. I"ll stumble on something that is willing to change in a song and I have to study it immediately. Mostly this happens liv...

From one thing, know ten thousand things.

There is a divine spark within  inspiration that births a sound and is handed as flame from candle to candle that makes my own path  in music. The sound transc...

Information alone can not teach you how to play a song.

Sometimes I think how fortunate I am to have had the teachers I've had. There is a music inside me waiting to be unlocked. Mind, body and spirit ache to unleash something I hav...

Forge your own path.

Experiencing eternity exists here and now. All life produces aliveness down to a single note on a single string. "Every bird thy requim sings." Everybody has a song to sing. The innocence and wonder I...

If you're not enlightened...forget it!

Well, I guess not everyone is going to like what I do. I can accept that. But if everyone liked what I did , I probabaly wouldn't be playing anything of depth. Hmm...tastes change, or at least they ca...
