I am here for Friends

About Me

Okay. I sold car parts in a department store. I put roofs on houses. I made pizzas. I was a roadie lighting tech. I was a chef's assistant. I was technical director for a small regional theatre. I was a building contractor. I collected tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Then I became a father. Then I became a lawyer. I play the guitar. I'm a card-carrying Parrothead. I'm sort of a libertarian, I guess. See, liberals want to use the power of the government for social change. Conservatives want to use the power of the government to get filthy rich. I want the government to dry up and blow away. "The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer and remove the crabgrass from your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it." - P.J. O'Rourke;I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Mad, Mad World

I can understand all of the arguments on both sides.  I know that Bill Clinton pardoned a lot of people for purely political reasons.  I know that the President has the power to hand down pa...

Ugh!

The President of the United States of America demonstrates once again that he has absolutely no respect for the rule of law.  How are we supposed to teach our children with examples like this?

Creation

Years ago I played the Defendant, Burt Cates, in the Play 'Inherit the Wind.'  As many of you know, the character was based on John Scopes who was convicted of teaching evolution to school childr...

Ronald Wilson Reagan

Here's an oldie that I'm posting up again for Father's Day.  Have a good one, dad.   With the passing of Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th President of the United States, there was a great out-pour...

The End

This is the last installment of the Constitution essay (finally) So the question is why so many people like it when the President or their congressmen blast the Court.  There are the obvious ones...

Sandra and Me

But I digress.  The Constitution does not say that the Supreme Court is the arbiter of constitutional questions.  In fact, it was not until 1803 that the Supreme Court itself decided that it...

The Role of the Supreme Court

A great deal of the change in trend has to do with the development of mass media.  Prior to the advent of radio one would requir...

Still more liberty

School prayer is an issue that has always puzzled me.  In terms of liberty, the issue cuts both ways.  For most of a century, prayer was part of the day in public schools across the country ...

More Liberty

So, if liberty is the goal of American jurisprudence, how is liberty doing in the twenty-first century?  In many ways, we have made substantial progress in breaking down racial and gender barrier...
