Replenish
Replenish first came into the world, disguised as children, in a small seaside town just short of South. Life as a band properly formalised in 2005 and their debut album ‘Underground’ - a three-month recording project in South Africa with acclaimed producer Nik FaircloughUnderground, pitted as ‘a carnival ride of ‘palpitation-inducing rhythms and smashing, passionate lyrics’, was just the tip of the iceberg. By 2006, Replenish was gathering fans and earning credibility with the industry, soon rocking the moshpits of Holland’s Flevo Festival, taking in Freakstock, Gatrock, Madrid, Barcelona, Santander, Durban and plenty of UK hops along the way.
The band’s musical influences are alternately apparent and nebulous – if you listen closely you’ll hear some Killers, some U2, some Mute Math. But this is no copycat outfit – this is new stuff drawn from the fabric of their lives, with a live all-embracing sound, filling a room like free beer on a Friday.
If you ask this three-piece what they stand for, what Replenish is about, the answer is straightforward, it’s about ‘creating an authentic sound which is us, which draws people in’. The critics don’t disagree, describing the band’s musical offerings as ‘crackling with passion – passionate songwriting, passionate performance, passionate production’. Frontman Ross Gill says, “Much of the music is scripted on the road, in between the craziness of flights, long journeys, sound checks and all the stuff that goes with gigging. We’ve never set out to make a point – we just use the music to talk about our experiences, our lives, in a way that hopefully sticks with people.â€
2007 saw the release of Live in the Underground, recorded at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth. Described as soulfood for the uninspired and rock with just a touch of tender’, this is their best yet – a seamless entwining of rock and meaning.
If it’s humming for days you want, then you’ve come to the right place.
