br Hide Sections Howard University’s Verbal Armageddon is Washington DC’s largest organized Hip-Hop competition. Verbal Armageddon is an innovative Hip-Hop tournament aimed at crowning the queen or king emcee (rapper) of the Howard University/D.C. community of emcees. The uniqueness of Verbal Armageddon is that the contestants are engaged in a variety of challenges that showcase their all-around emcee abilities and talents, as opposed to other competitions, which solely focus on free-styling or head-to-head battling. Centered at Howard University, Verbal Armageddon is a season long event, that puts contestants through a series of competitive rounds successfully performing and competing in various “freestyle” and “written” challenges to advance through the tryouts and the three-round tournament in pursuit of the championship. (Round 1: "Self-Definition," Round 2:"Verbal Assault," and Round 3: "The Gauntlet") The 2007 season of Verbal Armageddon marks the event’s seventh year of existence, with overall attendance projections of over 2500 persons.
