These fun sessions will have two activities each day: Riding and a hands-on educational or craft session. Students may ride English or Western. Fun sessions are geared toward the younger age group and beginning skills. May 26-30 June 2-6 9 a.m.- noon 9 a.m.- noon $150 $150-------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ FUN SESSIONS For ages 8 & up. This is a beginning session for kids with limited to no horse experience. Kids will be learning to groom and saddle their horses and they will ride a minimum of one hour each day. They will have a hands-on session each day. Students may ride English or Western. Every week has different activities. June 9-13 July 7-11 August 4-8 9 a.m.-noon 9 a.m.-noon 9 a.m.-noon $150 $150 $150-------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ RIDING & BARN LIFE For ages 8 & up. This session's students will be riding each day. Students will do hands-on care of the horses: grooming, saddling, longeing, feeding and care of the equine environment. This session is great for first-time riders or riders with limited skills or who only ride a few times a year. Students ride a minimum of one hour each day. June 16-20 July 14-18 July 28-August 1 9 a.m.-noon 9 a.m.-noon 9 a.m.-noon $150 $150 $150-------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ HORSEMANSHIP For ages 10 & up. For students with some horse experience. Students ride a minimum of one hour each day, assist in caring for the horses and their environment. This session will challenge, improve and enhance your rider's skills. If kids want to brush up on their skills prior to this session, we recommend they attend the work-ride study groups. June 23-27 July 21-25 *August 11-15 9 a.m.-noon 9 a.m.-noon 9 a.m.-noon $150 $150 $150 * August 11-15 session for 13 year olds & older only-------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ RULES AND REGULATIONSPlease note space is limited and only reserved with payment This is an outdoor activity Riding is done outside in the sun Kids should come with a bottle of water, sun block, dressed for the weather that day Indoor arena will be used during inclement weather Candy and soda machines are available for 50¢ and 60¢ A completed release form is required to participate We provide ASTM/SEI hard hats Students will not be allowed to ride in bicycle helmets or any other unapproved helmets Students not wishing to wear community helmets should purchase an ASTM/SEI approved helmet. These can be purchased at Tractor Supply Company. Boots with a minimum of 2" heel and a thin, smooth sole are required to ride. NO HIKING, SNOW, RAIN, FASHION-TYPE boots are allowed. This is for your child's safety. Long pants reaching the child's ankles are required We recommend shirts with sleeves Parents and siblings are welcome to stay and watch. They will not be allowed to interact with the horses unless enrolled in a session. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early each day Students picked up an hour or more late will be charged REFUND POLICY: Students canceling from sessions that have been filled will only be issued a 50% refund. Fees can be transferred to other classes or lessons at WRA.________________________________________________________ ___We have been making several improvements to the facility. The signs at the front entrance have been upgraded, four new dry lots have been added. There are fresh coats of paint on all the outside arenas and round pens, as well as the front gates and fence, and all doorways to the barn. We are still currently painting the outside tack buildings and the older dry lots. All of our older riding helmets have been replaced and we are continually trying to upgrade our lesson tack. New additons:A new large turnout pen next to the pasture. Customers can now turn out and supervise their horse in a larger grazing area. A new shavings storage bin is being built. A new storage area is located just inside the pasture gate. All storage bins and fuel tanks have been moved away from the new dry lots. We are a work in progress, so stay tuned as we strive to continually make improvements to make WRA the best horse facility in Sedgwick county!_____________________________________________________ ______We're teaching Wichita to ride! Even younger children, from age 4 will enjoy lessons in horsemanship at all levels with opportunities to learn responsibilities of caring for a horse and equipment, as well as stall and pasture life. Ride either English or Western, outdoors or in our indoor arena. Choose private or group instructions, camps, or clinics.Our instructors are selected for their experience in horsemanship and abilities to properly instruct students. Owner Cheryl Manahan attended William Woods University Equestrian Science program. She has managed Wichita Riding Academy since it was founded in 1984. To assist you in determining if this program is right for you, we recommend all interested students to enroll in the Work-Ride Learning Session. The Work-Ride Training Sesssion is REQUIRED to enroll in Work-Ride. Our goal is to help your child grow and foster their love of horses over the summer. What is Work-Ride? Work-Ride session is an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills with horses, allowing them to use what they have learned assisting others and expanding their horse knowledge.__________________________________________________ _________Work-Ride gives students a structured program to follow while assisting with activities at WRA. It teaches job skills for the future, a sense of responsibility and builds self-confidence.Students must have the skills to groom, tack english and western, halter, lead, safely tie horses and know the barn rules and safety. ___________________________________________________________T o participate, all students are required to attend and pass testing prior to registering. Longer lessons can be arranged.The majority of our lessons are riding lessons, however lessons can also be given to cover grooming, care, bandaging, driving, halter, showmanship or any topic the student wishes. ___________________________________________________________S EMI-PRIVATE LESSONSAvailable 7 days a week. We will do our best to schedule semi-private lessons when asked. If students cancel and only one student is available the lesson automatically becomes a private lesson.Lessons are 45 minutes long.Semi-Private lessons generally consist of 2 or 3 riders. ___________________________________________________________G ENERAL LESSON INFORMATIONA 24-hour cancellation policy is in place.Exceptions: When severe weather is present. Definition of Severe weather is: Sirens have sounded, KFDI has a severe weather alert/warning. Lessons not canceled with 24-hour notice will be charged. CHERYL MANAHAN - OWNER, INSTRUCTOR, TRAINER ____________Cheryl Manahan has owned and operated Wichita Riding Academy since it was founded in 1982. Cheryl Manahan attended William Woods University Equestrian Science program. Cheryl has instructed and trained many state and national champion riders and horses. Cheryl is a USEF Licensed Saddlebred, Morgan and Saddle Seat Equitation Judge.Cheryl is a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor for Horsemanship. She is also a certified 4-H Judge and is an Examiner for the AMHA Horsemastership Achievement Program. In April of 2006, Cheryl was granted Level III certification from the American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA)

Stalls are 12x12 or 10x12 bedded on pine shavings. Grain and hay are fed twice a day. Fans are available in the summer. Fly Systems spray the barn hourly. Water buckets are cleaned weekly or as need. Stalls are cleaned daily. Tail boards are available in some stalls.Outdoor Boarding is available. We have Semi-Private lots where horses are kept in a safe, controlled environment. Each lot contains an automatic waterer, shelter and the horses are fed grain and hay twice a day. Lots are cleaned once a week. Our pasture boarding is available with automatic waterer, shelters and grain/hay are provided. SHERYLL MARKS - BARN MANAGER/INSTRUCTOR/TRAINER Sheryll Marks has 30+ years experience in the horse world, and 20+ years showing, judging, conducting clinics and providing riding instruction.Sheryll trains all around horses for competition in Halter, Showmanship, Hunt Seat Pleasure, Hunt Seat Equitation, Western Pleasure, Stock Seat Equitation and Trail. She has shown various stock type breeds, has had multiple Grand and Reserve Halter Champions and Futurity winners in Halter and Western Pleasure, Reserve World Championships in Hunt Seat Pleasure, as well as numerous top 7 placings at the Pinto World show in Halter, Hunt Seat Pleasure and Western Pleasure. Students have taken several top honors in Pinto, Arabian and KSHA.In addition, she has had a student earn the Kansas Pinto Sweetheart title, two Youth Sportsmanship Award winners, and coached the current Ms. Pinto of America.

SARAH WISHALL - STAFFSara has always loved horses. She began taking lessons at Wichita Riding Academy when she moved to Kansas in 1996. Sarah graduated from Derby High School in 2001 and is a graduate of Wichita State University. Her favorite past time is working with and showing her Morgan Horse, Prowler.
