About Me

Hi, My name is Jen and this page is all about me & the process of moving into a Yurt as a permanent living arrangement. My goal is to write about the process from start to finish, the challenges, the rewards, how we did it, costs, and information for those of you out there who are curious. Hopefully you'll find some of my blogs interesting....and helpful if you are thinking about doing the same thing. I am a single mom with two girls. I love to meet new friends...so jot me a line if you want to get to know me better! Namaste~

My Interests

Yurts:

The History of Yurts is a link to a page made by Spirit Mountain Yurts.

I have an interest in just about every single little thing. I am always discovering new things, researching new ideas, coming up with new ideas and plans. I could never have the time to act on "every single little thing", but it sure is fun sometimes walking around with this imagination of mine!

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who is interested in helping with this project. I would like to use as many recycled materials as possible to build the platform a yurt goes on, and for all of the components inside. For instance, I will need plumbing for a small bathroom and kitchen. I will need cabinets and fixtures and labor. I am currently bartering my bookkeeping services for some of the labor & decking. I will be putting a list up of things I need soon, and also things that I have to barter. If you are available toward the end of May, beginning of June, and would like to help raise the yurt...send me an email. As the weeks progress, you can find more details in my blogs. ( I am really looking forward to all of the people I will meet along the way!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Link to a great article about Yurt living: http://www.newlifejournal.com/junjul04/everett_0704.shtml ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The players: (People who have and will be helping raise the Yurt in one way or another ~ thanks everyone!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Music:

As with so many people, music has been a savior of mine. Right now, my favorite new artists are locals Drew Thomas and Micah Anderson. (check them out if you get a chance!) I must now add The State of Jefferson to my favorites....if you EVER get a chance to see them live, do ALL you can to get there! Other favorites (this is def the short list) Hannah Shiley, Creedence, Chris Cornell, Susan Tedeschi, Fred Green, 27, Briefcase, Pink Floyd, Chili Peppers, and on and on...... AND Check OUT: MiCAH ANDERSON ~~~~ Go directly to his page HERE

Movies:

I don't have any major favorites...I usually only will watch a movie once...there are so many others to watch and other things to do before I die!

Television:

Throw away your television! (Listen to the Chili Peppers)

Books:

I LOVE to read...I always have something in the works. Too many favorites to list, but a just a very few that have shaped my life: "Go Dog Go" (by P.D. Eastman) , "Invincincible Louisa" (Cornelia Meigs), "Are you there god? It's me margaret" (Blume), "Hearts in Atlantis" (King) "Awakening the Buddha Within" (Lama Surya Das), "Your life is Your Message" (Eknath Eswaran) "The Art of Happiness" (Dalai Lama), "The Bandit of Kabul" (Jerry Beisler) and so very very many others!

Heroes:

Almost everyone I have ever met...each one has been a special part of my journey in life. Thank you! New Heroes: I am looking for the following items for my yurt: -a generator (at least has one 220), min 3000w (FOUND!) -small solar power system (components..batteries, inverter, etc) -lumber to build a deck (1-18in t&g plywood, 4x6, & 2x 6 beams) (FOUND!) -plumbing help -electrical help -carpentry help (I think I have this covered) -elec/gas fridge & stove (rv size) - clawfoot tub, fiberglass - bath, kitchen sinks, counters and cabinets If you know of anywhere I can get a deal on this stuff, let me know...thanks! -
