My interests tend to change pretty quickly, but some stable ones are cycling (especially up mountains), skiing, learning and using foreign languages. I (try to) play the guitar and saxophone. I also enjoy creative writing and have written several articles on aspects of French life/culture. If you're interested, have a look at http://writingsinthewilderness.blogspot.com/. If by chance you're a publisher, have a longer look, lol!
I'd like to think I've got a novel inside me somewhere (but I haven't found it yet)!

If you're open and sincere, that goes down well with me. Apart from that, anyone and everyone with unusual, thought-provoking or just plain amusing things to share. Language is not a barrier! If I really don't understand what you say, I'll have great fun misunderstanding thanks to Altavista Babelfish.

I still like a lot of what I listened to as a teenager, ie. late 70s/early 80s pop/rock and new wave. I'm pleased this period's come back into vogue with Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs et al., they remind me of the groups I most liked back then (Orange Juice, the Jam and many others). Specific favourites: early REM, Talking Heads, XTC, Bowie, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, Blur. I've become a huge Steely Dan and 10cc fan in the last year and have discovered Frank Sinatra. Coté français, Serge Gainsbourg's the most creative popular musician this country's had. Well, I had to say ONE name... I occasionally listen to jazz, mainly Coltrane and Stan Getz. And right now that Latin American sway moves me more than anything else.
Taxi Driver, most of Kubrick's films, especially 2001 and Clockwork Orange. Luis Bunuel and Claude Chabrol are my favourite European directors. Leonardo di Caprio revealed his huge talent for me in 'Aviator'. Pity Scorcese didn't get his Oscar for the first film mentioned here.
Coming back to Britain makes me realise just how bad French TV was. I won't dwell on that though...Personal faves at the moment are Life on Mars, Doctor Who, Have I got news for you, Catherine Tate show, old seventies sitcoms - the usual suspects. Basically all the stuff I was missing in France.'The Prisoner' is my all-time favourite and in my opinion hasn't been bettered in 40 years.
Classics: 'Crime and Punishment', 'Gulliver's Travels', 'Robinson Crusoe', 'Frankenstein', 'Picture of Dorian Gray', 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'. More recently: '100 years of solitude', 'Life of Pi', 'Sophie's World', my English-Spanish dictionary.
