Session Singer - Vocal Coach - Songwriting Dabbler

About Me

So, I thought I'd sort out this Biog a little - not that the section below isn't based somewhat on fact. I joined my first band a week before my 16th birthday - and was hooked on this music business thing. As well as being a session singer, lead and backing vocalist, vocal coach and singer/songwriter I used to run my own P.A hire company, mainly for local bands but also worked for Edwin Starr, the soul legend. I also did various support slots for well known comedians and also for Edwin Starr. I have worked in several studios as session singer, vocal arranger, engineer and producer including 'Sun Studios' in London run by my pal gordon Hulbert, 'Blank Tape' studios in Sheffield co-owned by songwriters Tom Chester and Elliot Kennedy (of Spice Girls fame amoungst a long line of others.)briefly as part of the wonderful house band at The Original Songwriter's in London and regularly showcased my own material. I worked I did four years at the 'Charter Theatre' in Preston and in varying capacities including sound technician/operator, have worked with many cool people such as country star Kenny Rodgers, Belinda Carlisle, Elkie Brookes, Bill Bailey, Jim Tavare, Lee Mac and the wonderful Ken Dodd. I have gigged in New York, Nashville, Spain, Germany as well as all over the UK. I now run my own vocal coaching company but am still gigging and working on original material.___________________________________________________ _____________Im struggling to remember who I am and what I've done but as soon as I clean out the cobwebs that tangle me up I will let you know. I just have a distant memory of being at college studying to be a make-up artist then the next thing I knew was I was fronting a band with a man known to me as my 'dad' saying I was f terrible and I was going nowhere. My singing seemed to bring out the worst in an already teetering man on the brink. I continued to make enemies along the way not quite understanding the adverse effect my voice had on people. Something inside me spurred me on regardless. Edwin Starr and Kenny Rodgers have also played their part although Kenny will never ask me to iron for him again. I now live in an attic far from civilisation making brief skirmishes into the local community of 4x4's to make a little money, visit Manchester Academy and session for those who do not wither at the very sound of my voice.

Sounds Like: I should have packed it in years ago - I should have listened to my mum and got a proper job instead of trying to become a successful singer in an industry made rich by soap stars pretending they can sing, Chicco - the cheeky little goat herd - yodeladyhoo.. and Phil Collins. Sounds like...I'm bitter? Not at all. I love singing covers every weekend in smoke filled hidey holes to an audience full of people talking, laughing, shouting, burping, farting, phoning, joking, wheezing, sneezing, calling, fighting and even SINGING. In fact, doing everything imaginable except listening to the singer who is being paid by the smoke filled dungeon to entertain them. Sounds like...I prefer session work then? Absolutely. And vocal coaching? Por cierto. Sounds like I should buckle down and get another album written? What do you think?
