I went to an island called butterfly others followed and started off trying to set up a small live and let live space on earth, but everybody began too make rules - so I eased on down the road, I landed on the magic round-a-bout and i live there still.

What was that about Alan Bennett?
Alan Bennett's themes are simultaneously ironic and tender. The characters he writes about are rooted in a particular social environment but the issues they raise are of more universal appeal: the essential isolation of human beings within the protective social roles they have adopted or had thrust upon them, the gap between self-awareness and the capacity to change -"Life is rather like a tin of sardines - we're all of us looking for the key"
