About Me

My name is Charlotte Bronte. I was born in the village of Thornton in Bradford from which I moved to the small village of Haworth in a neighbouring town called Keighley.I lived there with my 2 younger sisters and brother, who all met their untimely ends due to the ravages of consumption.Previous to their demise, we wrote avidly to fill out time, creating works that are now hailed as masterpieces.

My love... (Curtesy of BBC Online)When she was in her mid twenties Charlotte Brontë fell passionately in love - it was an obsession that was to remain unrequited, but which would fuel some of her greatest fiction. She met Constantin Heger in Brussels where she was studying. Upon her return to England she wrote him increasingly desperate letters which he ignored. Finally she gave up and poured her misery into her work - The Professor and Villette were the result. Now, 150 years after it's publication the original manuscript of Villette is returning home to Yorkshire for the first time - joining it will be Charlotte's love letters.
