SHARON MANYIKA:PROFILE Sharon Manyika was born twenty two years ago on the 27th of January 1985,the eldest child in a family of four girls. Besides being gifted with a beautiful voice from birth she also had the added blessing of being born in a musical family, her Grandfather Kennedy Grant Manyika a now retired Diplomat was the winner of numerous titles in the late forties and fifties as a music conductor of various school choirs. Her great uncles, uncles and aunts were also involved in music one way or another. Her mother was a choir mistress and conducted the choir that won the best performance in the whole of Zimbabwe for the national anthem, “Blessed be the nation of Zimbabwe”. Her father Samuel Tapiwa Manyika a prominent Zimbabwean church leader owns his own Gospel Music label . Sharon’s first stint in the studio was when she was around ten years old when she sang a forty second intro to a song. At fourteen she had her first two songs included on a compilation album. At seventeen she won her first award for Best female vocalist in the 16 –30 age group in the whole of Zimbabwe. The competition was organised by the Allied Arts and had International judges presiding over it.At eighteen years she recorded her first Album whose title track ‘Mufudzi’(Shepherd) reached number one on the local 3FM charts. She was then invited to South Africa by Jazz icon Victor Ntoni were she recorded her second Album ‘Do you believe?’ which had a strong jazz feel. While waiting for the release of this Album she released another Christian R&B Album called ‘Greater than the world’ which is still causing waves in Zimbabwe. She is currently studying International Music Industry Management and Studio production at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University in the UK. Sharon is a committed Christian who is also involved in the Youth and Praise and worship teams of her father’s International ministry.
