HISTORY OF THE GREATER EMANUEL TEMPLE C.O.G.I.C.The year was 1995- in the National Holy Convocation, Memphis, TN – the official Sunday service- when Pastor Golden received a visitation from the Lord. God told him that it was time for him to “ Step out on faith and start a church.â€
On Easter Sunday morning April 7, 1997 in the city of Hampton, Virginia, in the Holiday Inn Conference Center, Ballroom Greater Emmanuel Temple began to unfold. Stepping out by faith into unfamiliar territory, God had equipped us for the journey. There we stood with printed programs and a full P.A. system.
Pastor Golden, his wife and his three sons came into the first service, knowing the Lord was with them. 1st Lady Deborah Gold opened up the first service with praise and worship singing melodies such as “Oh the Glory of Your Presenceâ€, and Pastor Golden gave the Call to Worship. The first hymn was “All Hail the Power of Jesus Name†and on this day communion was served. We had about 30 visitors that witnessed this historical service. The service was advertised in the local newspaper.On Thursday, July 25, 1996 Randy Tyson with Tyson Realty took Pastor Golden to 1225 North King St. To the natural eye, the building was not suitable for a sanctuary, but the pastor could see through the spirit what others couldn’t see that 1225 N. King St. was the place for worship.On August 20, 1996 the building was purchased and our last service held at the hotel was September 15, 1996.
History was in the making on September 22, 1996 the first service was held in the fellowship hall because the sanctuary was still undergoing some renovations.
In 2003, our visionary established the GET Empowerment Inc. a non-profit agency that will provide youth empowerment, workforce development initiatives and community development projects for the community.
