"Sista San" has two meanings for me -- my paternal grandmother was called "Sister" and I am the sister of four brothers. So I have taken on "Sista San" as my storytelling name.
I am a professional storyteller specializing in African American Folktales. My love of storytelling developed within my profession as a Librarian. I perform as a solo artist as well as with Tradition Keepers: Black Storytellers of Western New York, a group of storytellers who came together to perserve the oral tradition..
I am also a Djembe drummer with the group "Daughters of Creative Sound", an African American women's percussion ensemble. We express ourselves through vocal, visual and percussive avenues. Our objective is to entertain, enlighten and have fun! Our first CD -- recorded and produced at Pharoah Productions (http://flickwilliams.com/index.htm) -- is now available at cdbaby.com
As a creative artist I have performed my many venues including libraries, churches, schools, community centers, for private functions such as weddings, anniversaries, and other celebrations.
