Proof of Limitation by Galactic Background
From the details of the system provided above and in the detailed Site Testing Reports it can be calculated that the system will have an equivalent incident noise flux of -143 dBmW/m2 at 120 MHz. At this same frequency we expect -135 dBmW/m2from the Galaxy. Thus we expect our noise floor to be dominated by Galactic noise. This pointcalculation is shown for other frequencies in the observed range in the Table below.

Here we have assumed that the expected flux from the galaxy follows a logarithmic slope of -2.5 with frequency.
As demonstration that our measurements are limited by Galactic noise, we present the following 81 MHz data; similar plots can be done for other frequencies. The four plots below show the measured Galactic profile as measured during our site testing program.
Plot A shows the Galactic profile created by averaging over 2667 ?3 kHz RBW
spectrum analyser channels (8 MHz), for each scan. Plot B shows that the Galaxy is still easily detected whilst integrating over only 9 such channels, or 27 kHz, for each scan. Plot C below shows that the Galactic signal is still detectable whilst averaging over 3 channels, and plot D shows detection in just one 3 kHz channel. This is an excellentdemonstration that the sensitivity of our system is truly limited by the Galactic background at 81 MHz.
