Myspace BackgroundsI have been married for nineteen years to a wonderful woman. She has saved my life more than once. We have one son, Colin, who at ten is the apple of his father's eye. I have resided in a sunny and warm corner of Texas all my life. I love my wife, my son, movies, books, comics, music, good food, my friends & family. I am part French and part American Indian (Cherokee) but I am told there is lot of other stuff mixed in. I try hard to be more than the sum of my parts and I hope I succeed.

My Interests

Raising my son to be a good person. (So far, success! Though unsurprisingly he is spoiled.) I've collected comics since I was eight. I'm always looking for a good book to read or movie to watch. I run a discussion board on the web called Cynosure which has been in existence for several years.

I'd like to meet:

People who like the same things I do! Dreamers. "If you are a dreamer, come in."--Shel Silverstein

I do not "collect" people. If I've sent you a friend request I either think you would be an interesting person to talk to, or I enjoy something you do (such as the music you produce or the books you write) or you "are" a fictional character I like. These criterion are not mutually exclusive. I will always be happy to hear from you.
This is my "other" website:

And this is a link to my wife's eBay store: Go buy something!

You Belong in 1967
If you scored...

1950 - 1959: You're fun loving, romantic, and more than a little innocent. See you at the drive in!

1960 - 1969: You are a free spirit with a huge heart. Love, peace, and happiness rule - oh, and drugs too.

1970 - 1979: Bold and brash, you take life by the horns. Whether you're partying or protesting, you give it your all!

1980 - 1989: Wild, over the top, and just a little bit cheesy. You're colorful at night - and successful during the day.

1990 - 1999: With you anything goes! You're grunge one day, ghetto fabulous the next. It's all good! What Year Do You Belong In?

Music:

It would be easier to talk about the music I don't like than the music I do like. I enjoy a lot of "old" stuff from when I was coming up-the Seventies and Eighties. I like some rock, some C & W, and some of just about everything else. I am a big Jimmy Buffett fan. (My wife teases me constantly because I still like the band A Flock of Seagulls.) Recently I've come to enjoy the music of Rocco DeLuca and the Burden.

Movies:

The Shawshank Redemption is the Best...Movie...Ever! Some other favorites: Labyrinth, almost anything with Ben Stiller or Will Ferrell in it, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the Eighth Dimension. Amelie and "foreign" cinema in general. I like horror movies a lot. Also anything featuring Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman or samurai films in general is good. Let's see, what else? Re-Animator, Blade Runner, The Good Earth, Bubba Ho-Tep, virtually any Jackie Chan movie. The films of Kevin Smith (except Jersey Girl-what the hell happened there?) I like Pixar's movies, Tim Burton's films (except Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-what the hell etc. etc.) The original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The Princess Bride. LOTR and the first Matrix movie-y'know, before they screwed everything up. The Crow. Indiana Jones!!! And the Harry Potter films. The films of Quentin Tarantino and, to a lesser extent, Robert Rodriguez. And I forgot to add Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness!!

Television:

I try not to watch too much TV as I'm convinced it rots the mind. However I must admit there are now several shows I watch semi-religiously: The Simpsons, Ugly Betty, Lost, Dexter, Masters of Horror. And I suppose I should talk about those shows that are gone but (mostly) not forgotten. In no particular order: I love Star Trek, The Prisoner, Twilight Zone, Nero Wolfe, and Deadwood. I also love Sherlock Holmes and think Jeremy Brett gave the best portrayal of the fictional detective.

Books:

I read omnivorously, so virtually any genre except romance is A-ok with me. Thrillers, mysteries, science fiction, fantasy and the occasional biography or non-fiction book comprise the greater part of my literary "diet". Some favorite authors: Edgar Allan Poe, Robert Heinlein, Ray Bradbury, Richard Adams (Watership Down is one of the best books ever written in the English language.) George C Chesbro. JK Rowling. I also like CS Lewis and JRR Tolkein, of course, as well as Robert J Sawyer, Elizabeth Peters, HP Lovecraft and Robert E Howard, Jack Vance, and "Kenneth Robeson" plus Philip Jose Farmer. And let's not forget Big Steve King, Stephen Hunter, Joe Lansdale, Bernard Cornwell, Patricia Cornwell, Robert McCammon, Harlan Ellison, James Ellroy, Peter David, Diane Duane, Ross MacDonald, Rex Stout, Robert B Parker, Neil Gaiman, Pat Conroy, Charlaine Harris, James Rollins, Tony Hillerman, Jonathan Kellerman, Carl Hiassen, Clive Cussler, Barry Eisler, Simon Green, Robert Crais, Andrew Vacchs, Lawrence Block, Gary Jennings, John Sandford and Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child.

Heroes:

My heroes are still the heroes of my youth: Doc Savage, The Shadow. The Batman. Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. "Real-time" heroes include my father, who is a good man. My wife and son!!! Also Chris Reeve comes to mind. I think our troops are heroes.

I'd like to share some things I care for here below, if I may:
Edgar Allan Poe. If you don't know who that is perhaps you should go away now.
Christina's World by Andrew Wyeth. This painting speaks to me; everything about isolation longing and loss is here.
Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh.
Moonlight, Wolf by Frederic Remington.
The Lady of Shallott by John William Waterhouse.
The Kiss by Gustav Klimt.
The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali.
The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali.
A lotus. "Because they emerge from slime and corruption, then grow up through the purifying water to emerge into the sunlight" lotus blossoms are "seen as metaphors for the development of the individual being towards enlightenment."
Ecstasy by Maxfield Parrish. I esteem Parrish's work very highly.
Daybreak by Maxfield Parrish.
Aquamarine by Maxfield Parrish.
The Waterfall by Maxfield Parrish.
The Enchanted Prince by Maxfield Parrish.
Stars by Maxfield Parrish.
Glen by Maxfield Parrish.
The Garden of Allah by Maxfield Parrish.
Midsummer Eve by Edward Robert Hughes.
Other World by MC Escher. Escher is another perennial favorite of mine.
Ants by MC Escher.
Belvedere by MC Escher.
Ascending/Descending by MC Escher.
Waterfall by MC Escher.
Reptiles by MC Escher.
Relativity by MC Escher.
Birds by MC Escher.
Eye by MC Escher.
The Scream by Edvard Munch.
Nighthawks by Edward Hopper.
Le Fils de l'Homme by Rene Magritte.
Jack in the Pulpit by Georgia O'Keefe.
Self Portrait With Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird by Frida Kahlo.
