Music:

"Music" as Revolutionary Movements by K-Dawg '008
Music to me is still at heart a proof of movement, hot one moment and elsewhere the next, ultimately unifying everything and going beyond only words. At one moment I am listening to a band, and then another in sometimes a completely different style the next, dictated by my emotions and thoughts. The fact that doing this is a revolutionary act is not entirely obvious, but you see the system (ie. capitalism, government in general) is merely a concentrated repetition of dissonant, feuding moments in an epic musical timeline that eventually proves to be an elemental harmony upon the assessment of the completed work. Think of a society in harmony with both Earth and Heaven that improvizes events anarchically to adapt to changes. The anthem of true civilization is obviously not complete yet! As a citizen, you are pondering where to go now, which record to pick up next...
We need to consider composition, for in classical music writing, it's about the way it's composed that allows for a change in beats, times, and verses. Or maybe it relies on pure emotion and tension and knows how to make you dance and thrash. As the listener, think of yourself as a composer, and the movement of music becomes a revolution. It's the gestalt, the way it moves, your mood, the rhythm, the voice of the musician, maybe the lyrics, that also seems to sum up that moment in time for you. Like in a real utopia, there should be no rules restricting music, but to pull it off, you gotta know how to move! The mainstream likes to make trends out of these movements, but for the truly autonomous listener, one notices the movements in the many dimensions. Music has the power to fuel life and its very essence is revolutionary, attaching itself to spiritual discoveries in world religions and socio-polical movements such as philosophical anarchism easily. In modern times, "Music" has become the sanctuary for free ideas and institutional resistance, making it the spirit of revolution. Music works are microcosms, maps to energy formations moving in space and time. Understanding music is like knowing the self, dissecting the ongoing discography of our identity or refining the tuning of our personal perceptions. Whether they be international world beats, punk d-beats, glamorous licks and lyrical riffs, or completely foreign objects altogether, I find myself going through a movement of seasons with age and picking out the chaotic dance steps to my world view, one that beats to the dao of sound, art, and life, and anarcho punks. The spirit of the matter simply recalls the years of hard rocking I've done, and the time spent recapturing it is like following the Dao. To the motions of noise and music, Walk on...
