HISTORY OF DISARRAY(1982-1986)
Between 1981 to 1982, in Japan, many HARDCORE PUNK bands went into action when the big wave of UK HARDCORE PUNK such as DISCHARGE came to Japan.
Especially, GAUZE, GISM, THE EXECUTE and THE COMES were very active in Tokyo and also ZOUO, LAUGHIN NOSE and COBRA were popular in Osaka.
In 1982, the band called DISARRAY is formed in Sendai which is a local city, and it was a 4 piece band with RYUJI/Voice, SHINJI/Drums, GAS/Guitars, AKI/Bass.
At that time, they were the first DIS-naming HARDCORE PUNK band in Japan.
They played with SODOM, THE EXECUTE, KIKEIJI, ABURADAKO etc, and since then the name of DISARRAY came to public attention.
In 1983, they finished their DEMO and ADK records were very interested in it.
In June 1984, they released "S/T FLEXI" with 7-tracks which was produced by TAM/THE STALIN from ADK records.
FLEXI received high acclaim as authentic HARDCORE PUNK among any titles released from ADK records and it was sold 2,000 in 3 weeks.
Here is the review on MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL magazine 1984, written by PUSHEAD from SEPTIC DEATH.
"Seven quickly delivered songs with wild guitar whines, definitely inspired dy DISCHARGE or a speedy MOTORHEAD, with convincing raw power and sonic steerings of chaotic disorder.
Fuzzy, distorted guitar overpowers each number that feedsback into stomping charges of mayhem. A band to watch for! (Pushead)"
In 1984, RYUJI/Voice also released FLEXI with REBEL(sendai) and SEKININ-TENKA(sendai) in the name of BITOUSHA.
It was a great opus with aggressive and heavy HARDCORE PUNK sounds.
After the release of FLEXI, they recorded the 6-tracks DEMO called "LICENCE TO KILL".
It is very shame that DEMO cassette was sold only few units, because the sound of LICENCE TO KILL-DEMO played especially much speedier and more aggressive than any bands in Tokyo and OSAKA.
In 1985, GAS/Guitars and AKI/Bass left the band, and AKIRA/Guitars and ATSUSHI/Bass joined them as new members.
They played with LIP CREAM and they appeared at the gig presented by LIP CREAM.
At the same time, they decided to release their 2nd EP from ADK records and went to Tokyo for the gig and recording.
Although the first gig in Tokyo was very successful, but the recording was suddenly canceled due to circumstances beyond ADK records.
They started the recording in their hometown Sendai, and they decided to release it from CHICKEN SHIT records.
At that stage, the owner of ADK records suddenly ran away and the label was disappeared.
In the end of 1985, they released 2nd EP called "IN SEARCH OF THE MIRACULOUS" included speedy and heavy songs, which any Japanese had never listened at that time.
At the same time, they recorded the 7-tracks DEMO called "1985 DEMO" included unreleased songs which never included in their FLEXI & EP.
1985 DEMO was very speedy, aggressive & raging, and definitely a flabbergasted content.
In spring 1986, DISARRAY brought to an end to their 4 years activity.
All the sounds and the aggressive gigs which they carried down, never fades even today.....
In closing, here is the review for the 2nd EP on MAXIMUM
ROCKNROLL magazine, written by PUSHEAD.
"Rapid cranks of lethal choice cuts, pushing a fast rhythmic sound head long into one of disorder plunging in a few wailing whines.
Harsh vocals dominate over a guitar oriented sound that kicks in for some running speed.
Another hot Japanese second release that is more than a cleaver to the senses. (Pushead)"
