Piotr Szczepanik's career was started by an accident- while relaxing by the lake he spotted a mysterious creature which turned out to be a cormorant. Trying to catch it, the singer produced a melodic whine and the whole affair was later described by a poet- Mr Tylczynski. What Mr Tylczynski wrote, Mr Szczepanik sang and the nation listened with sheer delight. The listeners' admiration was then cynically exploited by Mr Szczepanik who tormented the audience continously with his singles, albums and live performances, shamelessly scoring number ones in all possible charts.
After achieving the iconic status of a national heart throb and idol, Mr Szczepanik employed his talents elsewhere. He started singing old romances, poems, folk and patriotic melodies- pieces of music belonging to the public domain. Such behaviour did not earn him the governments sympathy. Later on, during the time of the Martial Law, he was engaged with the opposition and was called one of the bards of Solidarnosc.
Mr Sczepanik is also an actor, noted for his cooperation with The Doll and Actor Theatre in Lublin, the cabarets: Czart and Dren and his work in film.
