Ted Comerford
Producer/engineer/musicianOne of the most talented and sought-after producers on the scene, Ted Comerford has been making and recording music since he was 15 years old. For the past 10 years, Ted had been professionally producing albums by both independent and signed artists, working alongside well-regarded mixers and engineers such as Mitch Easter (REM, Wilco), Jack Joseph Puig (John Mayer, Sheryl Crow), Paul David Hager (Avril Lavigne, The Donnas), Jeff Juliano (Dave Matthews, Bruce Hornsby), and Joe Zook (Liz Phair, Remy Zero).Ted started his career as a musician, writing songs, playing guitar, bass, synth, and singing with a series of bands, most recently Melbourne, which garnered opening tour slots with bands and artists including Maroon 5, Gavin DeGraw, Sister Hazel, Marc Broussard, and Fighting Gravity. Based on the highly regarded production work he did with his own bands, word of Ted's talents as an engineer and producer quickly grew, bringing him to the attention of other local bands in the Washington, D.C. area, where he further honed his producing and engineering skills. Now an in-demand producer with his own residential recording facility - Low Watt Recording - in his new hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, Over the past decade, Ted has produced music for artists including Virginia Coalition, The Argument, ZOX, Red Wanting Blue, Lucky Town and EBO, among others.Unlike producers that have a 'signature' sound they impose on the bands they work with, Ted's approach is to use his talents to help each band record the best album they possibly can while retaining their originality and artistic integrity. 'I have a pretty wide palette in terms of musical influences, but I am definitely song-oriented,' Comerford says. 'My philosophy, if you want to call it that, is to make the best record the band can make. I'm well aware that it's not my solo album -- I'll get to make another album, but the band will have to live with their album for a while, so I'll work to ensure that the album not only sounds great, but that it sounds the way the band or artist envisioned it could when they walked into the studio.
