About Me:
I’m a 25-year-old college student in Stockton, CA who, due to various injuries and personal tragedies, has had a little longer trek through my local community college than most “traditional†students. I’m okay with that, though, as if I hadn’t been matriculating at Delta College for as long as I have, I wouldn’t have encountered the wonderful people I’ve met along the way. I can honestly say, though, that of all my years at Delta, this past year has been the most rewarding. Actually, it has, quite possibly, been the greatest experience of my life to date.
This past Fall, I, along with 11 of my Freelance Writing classmates, formed The Writers’ Guild -- a club dedicated to promoting literacy through writing. Each month, we put out a FREE magazine of various written works and artwork, called ArtIFact (which is open to submission by any Delta College employee, faculty, student, or alumni [whether you’re a graduate or simply a former student is of no consequence]). My work with the Writers’ Guild, serving the community, has been a very rewarding experience in and of itself. It’s made me feel like I’m an important part of a team and have others who depend on me, which has been a significant self-esteem booster.
Another equally significant (if not more so) boost to my self-confidence and self-esteem this past year has been my participation in the Delta College Speech & Debate team. This experience has been SOOO rewarding not just because of the awards I’ve won (I’m now a REGIONAL CHAMPION SPEAKER!), but because of the team camaraderie and the independence I have garnered (I now know I can, with my family’s blessing [not that it’s at all necessary, but it’s nice to have], successfully, without complications, travel and stay in a hotel -- without my family). The confidence I have gained through my experiences this year has aided me in social situations (I now stumble over my words much less often when conversing), conquering phobias, and in running for elected office (and WINNING!) in Delta’s student government.
I look forward to another great year as I continue with my participation in the Speech & Debate team, as well as continue to serve Delta students in the Writers’ Guild, and, now, as a member of the Associated Student Body Government. If you are viewing this profile because you’re a friend of mine from Delta, be forewarned that I am a bit more… colorful… in my language (and in the photos I show) than you may have heard from me at Delta. I am a little more relaxed on my MySpace profile than I am at Delta. I have a bit of a sarcastic sense of humor at times, which is expressed on this page. I also enjoy certain music that some may find offensive. I do hope that you do not take offence at any of the vulgarities on this page, or think less of me because of it. I'm also aware that certain areas of this page are looking a little shabby. I'm currently in the midst of an overhaul of this page, so bear with me.
