In a recording studio in late in 2006, Heather, Ferg and Julia were approached by Science of Big Brother fame, who asked them to form a band for his latest rap project. Despite the obvious appeals, the project fell through when Julia formed the band Fake Tan.
Undeterred, Heather and Ferg decided to embark on a new project with Hywel; conceived primarily because there was not already a band called Sailor Tongue - a clear failing of musical history, and a ready-made niche market waiting to be exploited.
Trent joined soon after, with the intention of forming a diametrically-opposed twin-guitar attack with Ferg, and to create a uniform band image of handsome swarthy types. Ferg also provided the use of a basement practice area with on-suite tea and crumpet facilities.
Sailor Tongue made their stage debut several months back at the Brudenell Social Club, where some people apparently enjoyed the experience. Their music has been described variously as 'quite original', 'ballsy', and 'actually not shit'. These are, of course, all relativistic terms, and the reference points used is not clear.
The band have just returned from a very brief hiatus, which turned out to be shorter than the period between gigs would have been anyway, having found that it didn't live up to the hype often propagated in publications such as Melody Maker and the Observer Food Monthly. No-one achieved their envisaged solo aims in any meaningful way during this period, and no-one made any cheese. Expect songs about these experiences in the near future.
There is also a comic which is sometimes available at Sailor Tongue gigs, it documents the thrills and spills the band encounter during their gigs and travels. So far this has included the trials and tribulations of on-stage vomiting and battling a savage manic amp. It is for free but there are only a few left due to the covert photocopying opportunities Heather has at work. They are worth 50 Eye Spy points each.
