As a wee lad, It all began with pots & pans in the kitchen... Later, playing with mum & pops LPs in ways to get scolded for... Even later, around 5th grade, Eric B. & Rakim "Paid in Full" on cassette tape was given to the young K-Rai at a birthday party. Since that time .... nothing was ever quite the same.
K-Rai started experimenting with sampling, making beats, and extruding noise from a computer in 1994/95 using a digital audio sequencing program in DOS called Scream Tracker. Soon after learning the ropes and discovering the limitations of that program - a newer, more capable one called Impulse Tracker was discovered. After a decade of sonic noodlings and various collaborative projects (including an industrial band), K-Rai went solo to do gigs on the regular.
Various types of live performances: being incorporated into fashion shows, art gallery openings, open mics, w/ live VJs, DJing, Outdoor festivals, underground warehouse dance parties & Laptop Battles. Now using ReNoise :) K-Rai is able to utilize new techniques combined w/ years of tracking experience.Nowadays K-Rai is a part of The Megadrives. In case you didn’t know: The Megadrives are K-Rai, DJ Sheephead, & VJ Chroma. A mind-numbing, beat crazy, psychedelic frenzy, output through a dual laptop/DJ mixer/midi keys/fx config with simultaneous play. A constant mix is created running the gamut of electronic dance music, trance, down-tempo, drum n bass, breaks, idm - we rock it all night long. Live, customized, self produced, WE ARE THE MEGADRIVES.
