Emerging from the Flames of Heretical Accusation into a Sane View of Church Life

About Me

A Postmodern Mission

I pastor a church called The Gathering in Salem, Massachusetts - Witch City. I enjoy Halloween, and in October during Haunted Happenings our church has fun, and gets busy serving the community. We serve free hot cocoa, provide a stage with 7 days of live music, offer free Dream Interpretations, Spiritual Readings, and a rock your socks off confessional booth. And that's just during Halloween!
We have learned to make friends with Witches despite our different worldviews, and we got in trouble over it, but we figure understanding and grace are more important than superstition and legalism, so we held to our guns, and got burned for it. You can read our story in a number of places on the web , or you can go directly to the original Wall Street Journal article by Suzanne Sataline .
We believe that there is a better way of sharing the deep, and powerful message of Jesus the Nazarene, and are working to help people learn the gentle way of Jesus.
If you would like to join us, give us a call at 978-744-8444, and see if there is a way to become a part of this revolutionary team.
We plan on traveling around the globe doing some of the same things we do here in Salem in other places. This year you could join us in Wales, and Scotland in the summer, or perhaps in a variety of festivals here in the US. Perhaps you would like to be part of this team serving the city of Salem in October! If so, call us.You can find Pastor Phil Wyman, and The Gathering at the following Blog sites:

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

There are piles of dead people I'd like to meet. St. Patrick, and Petr Chelchicky are high on my list right now.

Books:

Reading Now: Petr Chelchicky's Net of Faith, The Last Word by NT Wright, The Works of Arminius, and John MacArthur's The Truth War. I am only reading the last book because I feel that I should respond to it - I don't recommend wasting the money on it. ;-)

Heroes:

My wife Bev, My son Elijah, and his wife Rhonda. They've all been through Hell, and are still smiling.
