About Me

Midsumma is Melbourne’s premier gay and lesbian arts and cultural organisation, presenting an annual Arts, Cultural and Community Festival that showcases performing arts, visual arts, cabaret, spoken word, film & literature, forums, food & wine, community, sporting, and family events. Spread over five municipalities and located in over 60 different venues across Melbourne and Victoria, Midsumma aims to be both engaging and accessible for the entire community.
Midsumma Festival is committed to diversity, integrity, equality, and professionalism in everything we do. Maintaining these values is vital to the embodiment of community spirit and to our commitment to the development and showcasing of Australian queer arts and culture.
We pride ourselves on our cultural richness and inclusiveness as we further Melbourne’s identity as an artistically vibrant and invigorated city. Join us as we transform some of the city’s most exciting public spaces into hubs into vibrant hubs of queer culture and community celebration.
Over the last twenty years, Midsumma has evolved, grown and matured into one of Australia’s most respected showcases of queer arts and culture and is highly regarded on the international calendar of gay and lesbian cultural festivals.
Out theme for the 2008 Festival is ‘Arrival’
We take this opportunity to ask our selves and our community:
• Where have we arrived?
• Where did we come from?
• How did we get here?
• Where to from here?
Through performance, exhibition, debate, interaction, reflection, participation, and artistic expression, the 2008 Festival seeks to both ask these questions and attempt to provide some answers.

If you’ve got an idea and the passion to make it happen, or think you’ve got a good eye for what the community wants, we’d love you to get involved.

Please email [email protected] with your program category of interest in the subject line, a brief description of why you’d like to be involved and details of any skills and experience in your chosen area of interest.
