Elder Shelton "The Minstrel" Wilson

About Me

”But now bring me a Minstrel. And when the Minstrel played, the power of the LORD came upon him.” 2 Kings 3:15Elder Shelton F. Wilson musical beginnings as a musician started at the tender age of four beating on pots and pans only to become “The Minstrel” as he is known today. His musical beginnings, teachings and mentoring stages began during his fellowship years at Holy Tabernacle Church under the pastorate of the late Bishop Joe L. Smith, where he began playing the drums only to elevate to keyboard and organ. With his ability to master the drums skillfully led him to become one of the most sought after drummers, which led him to travel the country at an early age with the renowned Salvation Corporation Choir. Elder Shelton saw fit that there was no more to accomplish with the drums soon there after with the blessings and encouragement of the late Bishop Smith, Elder Shelton started to focus on the organ and piano. With his ability during the stages of mastering the organ and piano, he soon there after studied and sat under the tutelage of both Professor Don Garner and Professor Dennis Montgomery III who taught him with discipline, ministered to his musical spirit to play with the anointing and gift that God has instilled in him, but they also became his mentors and spiritual uncle and brother, but most of all close friends. In which he is indebted to them for their love and support.During his years as a musician, Elder Shelton has endured pain, hardships, disappoints and hurts. Although he knew the Lord from his childhood, he really did not know at the time of his calling God has placed on his life. He went after his “purpose” as a Minstrel not knowing it was there all the time. Elder Shelton was discarded as a musician, talked about as a person and treated as less than a man, but also admitting to his own faults, mistakes and failures. He has been through many trials and tribulations, which led him to his weakest moment in life, with nowhere to go and no place to turn. But through it all Elder Shelton never gave up on God and God never gave up on him. Not being able to take the pressures in the east his home state of Massachusetts,Elder Shelton went to the west to Nevada for solitude and to run away from the pain and the hurt of being a “church” musician. But his decision to move to the west was only part of his process of changing him from a musician to The Minstrel. After a period of time Elder Shelton obeyed God and made the decision of going back home to Massachusetts where his anointing and gift was birthed. Shelton has accomplished much in a short amount of time. God has blessed him highly and richly in all aspects of his life. God has re-opened and opened many doors that was previously shut, has a gained closer relationship with his family and to those who are close to him, but most of all has gained a closer intimate relationship with God. In September of 2001, He accepted his call in the ministry.
