Kelley Mak was born Kelley Mackenzie Conner in January of 1981, hence came the childhood nickname "Kelley Mak". Growing up, Kelley suffered through abusive relationships. Being caught in the middle of drug abuse, sexual abuse, and multiple divorces, Kelley's only way out was through pen and pad. She inherited the desire to write from her mother and was noted as early as elementary school, winning awards for short stories and poetry. Published by the age of 15, Kelley excelled in English studies and would dream of one day being a published poet with her very own book. Until one day, she read a poem aloud to a friend, who was also a local producer, and he convinced her to get on the mic.Life would never be the same. To her, it was like the poetry came to life and the emotional chains were broken. Kelley always had an underlying passion for music, locking herself in rooms for hours with Donna Summer, The Beatles, Janis Joplin, Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr and Lauryn Hill. She craved the lime light, but never really thought that she possessed the talent of song. Little did she know she was very wrong. Life never quite got on the right path, though. Drug abuse took an early toll on the young star's life. But somewhere along the downhill slope of drugs, crime, and institutions, Kelley found a higher power within herself to make a drastic turnaround, changing her life and everyone around her as well. She vowed to create a positive path from there on out, with the goal to influence many who are lost along the way. Years ago, upon asking Kelley Mak how she "became" an MC/singer she would have said, " Actually, it was kind of an accident!" In response to the later quote she now states, " There are no such things as accidents. I realize now that God had everything laid out for me, and he chose for me to lead the life that I've lived so that I can take my turmoil and turn it into positive release and reinforcement. I was given this talent for a reason, and it's so that I can be that voice that saves someone's life, just like music saved mine."
