As a feeling, an epiphany is a sudden realization or comprehension of the essence or meaning of something.
Populus is a progressive rock/metal band from Montreal, Canada. Rooted in the metal genre, Populus elevates itself through the exploration of deep melodies and instrumentation. Fusing the rich textures of piano and acoustic instruments with distorted guitars, the music evokes a vast range of emotions.
In 2003, these childhood friends formed Populus to play at various school and charity concerts. Starting as a band covering mainly classics like Metallica, Tool, Opeth, Pantera, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith and Radiohead, the individuals soon grew and matured, as did the need to express emotions other than those associated with the cliché metal genre. Drummer William Dubé explored aspects other than traditional rock beats, bassist Mirek Hamet developed his skills as a pianist, vocalist/guitarist Maxime Lacoste-Lebuis submerged himself in avant-garde acoustic guitar techniques and Ralph Tacheji mastered different styles of lead guitar playing.
Populus has just finished their first offering, Epiphany, a thirty minute EP. You can here some of it on this page or on the band's official website.
