The Houdini Complex is an experiment in uninhibited musical exploration and performance to challenge the listener and the performers. The sound fuses elements of extreme metal, jazz, and rock, and aims for an abrasive and overwhelming sound and delivery, with the urgency of a life-and-death situation.
The concept is simple,
The recorded music is like a script, a refined and calculated representation of a thought, and only relevant to the musician at the moment of its conception. Give the cast creative freedom to interpret and continually expand on that thought and it becomes something else entirely. The performance becomes less about reciting memorized tunes, and more about bringing the songs to life, always relevant, and always in the moment. If you like the CD, wait till you hear the real thing LIVE, it's another fucking animal!
For The Houdini Complex, the 2007 debut album "Barriers Fall" builds a solid framework from which the lineup erupts. Live, thunderous and complex rhythms from two drummers on full kits set off a vibe that cannot be described. Add 2 A.D.D. infused contrasting guitars on steroids, and vocals with an energy not entirely of this world. Throw in some jazzy "breakdowns", a bit of improv, and a lot of adrenaline, and you have T.H.C.
