About Me

After numerous requests, I've finally decided to start my own photography based myspace page to show some of my work. I enjoy photographing anything that interests me, plain and simple, including live music like This Alibi, sport teams like the Kansas City Roller Warriors, my family including my twin nieces and twin nephews, still life compositions and whatever else catches my eye and imagination. There is nothing like the feeling of being "in the moment" and capturing the subject at just the right time. As a child, I was fascinated with cars and my earliest memory of shooting pictures was when I was very young. I remember being in the Thousand Oaks parking lot standing next to the most fascinating and awesome car I'd ever seen...a 1970 Petty Blue Plymouth Superbird. I stood there in awe at the pointed nose with retractable headlights designed to slice thru the air at insane speeds and the mammoth rear wing with the infamous cartoon Road Runner decal on it. As I pressed the shutter button on my simple camera, I heard in my mind's eye the roar of the engine and pictured King Richard flying around the track in a land missile just like that one. Even as a child, photography was much more than just an image on a page or a screen. Now I understand that my images can spark a memory that could be of the actual event that's pictured, something from the viewer's past or something completely random. Since my first experience with shooting pictures, I've worked on my college newspaper as the head photographer for 3 years and later, as a freelance photographer. My photographs have ranged from presidents to burlesque dancers and rock bands...from women’s roller derby to my twin nieces & nephews. Some of the bands and organizations who have recently used my images are: This Alibi, KC Roller Warriors, Pornhuskers, The Architects, MOTUV, Federation of Horsepower, The Pink Socks, Annie Cherry's Hurly Burly burlesque troupe.... I've been published in local newspapers, many websites, several international magazines. I'm happy to regularly work with presentmagazine.com and be a staff photographer for Urban Times magazine. I'm also looking forward to working with Public Multimedia, Inc.; an independent news service covering the war against terrorism...check out longwarjournal.com for more info. Music:

Live music!

Movies:

"Photography records the gamut of feelings written on the human face, the beauty of the earth and skies that man has inherited, and the wealth and confusion man has created. It is a major force in explaining man to man." - Edward Steichen

Television:

"All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget. In this - as in other ways - they are the opposite of paintings. Paintings record what the painter remembers. Because each one of us forgets different things, a photo more than a painting may change its meaning according to who is looking at it." - John Berger

Books:

Any book which shows images of the masters of photography like Alfred Stieglitz, Minor White, Umbo, Brassai, Heinz Hajek-Halke, Imogen Cunningham, Dorthea Lange, Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward Weston, etc etc

Heroes:

The men and women of the armed forces who, thru their sacrifices, ensure the freedoms we enjoy and sometimes take for granted.
