Speaking for the children Cause no one else can hear them So I decided to listen As I saw sugary sweet sadness Oozing from their gladness As adults shove sugary stuff right down the esophagus Then insisting you must Sit down pay attention If you can’t sit still then it must be an affliction So we’ll call in the therapist to get the prescription Now you are a child of redemption Acting perfect However, your development is on restriction You’re only seven and by the time you’re eleven You won’t know if you’re in heaven or hell You can’t tell if you are happy or sad Your emotions are a tad eschewed But you can sit and learn in school While they teach consumption as the golden rule And now you are a product of the marketing construct Which seeks to control your conduct But I see the family as the remedy If anyone would have checked to see What the lunchroom was serving their children most afternoons I see the sugary sweet sadness As eyes get big with gladness When the sugar hits the belly And you’ve got your legal fix That the government has picked for you Refining your mind to a fine grain of dehydration And this is the poor child’s life No education to break the strife of this perpetual cycle Medicaid pays for the prescriptions laid upon this child For he can’t sit still and he never will If he lives of a sugary surplus Of artificially flavored Color added Nutrition subtracted Bleached and fortified Eating a cavity to the mind Because dental insurance is hard to come by All the while eating healthier is sweeter But what the government gets you hooked on is cheaper And they have to cut budgets where they can So they can buy up oil filled land But you’re only eleven and you’re emotionally seven Four years of prescription medicine can kill any creative expression And no one bothered to check the nutrition Because let’s face it It’s more expensive And we don’t have time to waste on solutions We’ll save that for your generation.
