Luca Nostro was born in Rome the 11th of June 1971, is a jazz guitar player and composer. He lives between Rome and New York. He has a degree in Law and Economics had at LUISS University in Rome, now is attending the Faculty of Philosophy at La Sapienza University in Rome. His relationship with music begins at the age of ten, when Luca studies piano and also plays in a small young orchestra directed by one of the directors of Sistine Chapel Choir. Then he moves to classica and electric guitar. In 1998 he takes the Diploma, with a specialization in jazz, at University of Music in Rome, where he studies with Fabio Zeppetella (Kenny Wheelher, Tom Harrell) and: Ramberto Ciammarughi, Umberto Fiorentino, Massimo Moriconi Giovanni Tommaso, Danilo Rea, Maurizio Giammarco, Rosario Giuliani, Fabrizio Sferra, Andrea Avena e Roberto Spadoni. He takes part to several workshop on jazz improvisation with: Maurizio Giammarco, Danilo Rea, Giovanni Tommaso, Fabrizio Sferra, Pete Bernstein. He’s one of the partners of Percentomusica School of music in Rome, directed by Massimo Moriconi (one of the most well known bass player in Italy), where he teaches guitar and history of popular music. He also writes articles and essays on Philosophy of Music, beeing invited for conferences (University of La Sapienza, University of Roma Tre) also in TV (Rai Utile). In 2002 he was the editor of a book on philosophy of music (L’esperienza musicale. Per una fenomenologia dei suoni. Collana i Libri di Montag, Manifestolibri 2002) that hosted philosophers and musicians from all over the world (Philip Tagg, Lawrence “Butch†Morris, Laird Addis, Nicholas Cook). As a musician he performs with many bands, both as a leader and as a sideman (from jazz to pop, from bossa nova to soul nd Rhythm ‘n’ blues). He has been playing with, among others: Lilli Greco, Sandro Deidda, Umberto Forentino, Tassili Bond, Donny McCaslin, Dan Weiss, Francois Moutin, Francesco Puglisi, Stefano Cantarano, Massimo Fedeli, Riccardo Pellegrino, Cristal White, Andy Gravish, Sandy Muller, Claudio Pezzotta, Emilio Merone, Nicola Angelucci, Carlotta Proietti, Andrea Avena Fabrizio Cardosa. As a composer he often works with visual artists and actors, such as Mino Trafeli, Ilir Zefi, Stefano Tonelli (Hamburg 2004), Mimmo Nobile, Luigi Mezzanotte e Carlo Ragone, making sonorizations of their artworks. In New York he recorded 8 songs of his as a band leader at Systems Two in Brooklyn, with his Luca Nostro NYC Unser Quartet with Donny Mccaslin on tenor sax, Francois Moutin on bass and Dan Weiss on drums.
Since 2007 he's in the band of Sandy Muller, an italo-brazilian pop singer starting for a spring-summer tour all over Italy.
