About Me

pflagupstatesc.org
Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG) is a national non-profit organization with over 200,000 members and supporters and over 500 affiliates in the United States. This vast grassroots network is cultivated, resourced and serviced by the PFLAG national office, located in Washington, D.C., the national Board of Directors and 14 Regional Directors.
Our Vision
We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the participation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize this vision.
Our Mission
PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
WHAT WE DO
We are committed to help other parents, families, and friends learn what we have learned. We hope to change attitudes and create an environment of understanding so that our gay and lesbian children can live with dignity and respect and total acceptance of who they are. It is our sincere invitation to share our knowledge, to be free from fear, and to reach out, search, and discover more about being human. We do this with sensitivity, trust, and an environment of love.
WE LISTEN: We listen in confidence to family members who are troubled by a loved one's coming out, and who don't know how to cope.
WE LEARN: We learn from speakers who come to our meetings and teach us skills we can use to help ourselves and others understand sexual diversity.
WE SHARE: We share our stories and our concerns. We talk with people who have "been there" and who might help others on their journey to loving and accepting a gay family member or friend.
WE ACT: We act on any issue that touches on the support of our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender loved ones.
