Bunmi: "Tunde & Taraja's Dream"

Taraja and Tunde's Hope and Prayer for a Better World

About Me

I am Oshunbunmi Samuel, named after Oshun, the representation of all things sweet, children, beauty, and water that flows in the Yoruba Tradition. I'm the son of Taraja and Tunde. My family hails from St. Kitts/Nevis, Bermuda, and Savannah-Georgia. I was raised in Brooklyn and Harlem, and known by most Bunmi or Boom. I am what New York use to be when HIP Hop first hit. Before 9-11 and tourist invasion.I am a resident of Philadelphia now where I am an educator and entrepreneur. Owner of BOOMBASTICS, Inc., a creative marketing and development company-The Philadelphia Shirt Company, and co-founder of the Headline Theater Company.New Questions:What song was playing when my mother and father were thinking about having me? How farfetched is freedom in America? What would you do to create a unbiased and untainted experience?Thoughts:We come a long way...across sands...struggles...generations...but we still exist...We Are the Wild Afrikans! The Wild Afrikans are Creatively Present, Personally Fly, Spiritually Connected- Warrior Visionaries! We are unconfused about our mission to raise the standard of Afrikan People (people understanding their descent present and past from the continent of Afrika). We are grounded in our Afrikaness (the essence of the drum, the beauty in our movement, the epic memory-uneraseble by time), BUT we won't settle for stereotypes or passed on opinions-perpetuated by material symbols or influenced myths of Tarzan and primitive creatures! Most of us aren't even from €œhere€?. We are on a mission, sent to create change. The revolutionaries of the now. We are the dreamers, the dancers, the idealist, and the singers of a higher song, the artists who refuse to stop making the world we want to see. The Movers & Shakers who warrant stares and send chills and create silence when they walk through the door! But what is Wild about this Afrikan? Our WILD is our passion; our excitement about all the beauty and wonderment we see in ourselves and others. The Wild is our refusal to accept the status quo. Our fight to never be victims of another man or woman's inadequacy or fear. How do I know I'm a Wild Afrikan? You may see it in our walk, our smile, our creations, our generosity, our inventiveness, our swagger, our love of life, or simply in our hustle. To hustle is to be AFRIKAN (R). But through our JOURNEY we must be humble, fight in our defense, be consistent in our integrity, and proactive at all times. We believe in the genius of learning and teaching, knowing that we are only valuable to the universe if we can pull the Wild Afrikan out of others. We are motivated and moved by our "God" Sense and not our "Good" Sense. We understand our complex history and unashamed of our legacy. We are connected to the now by all of those who came before us. We are influenced by the light bulb, the ahhh haaaa moments, which lay in the balance of success and our short comings. What motivates you? We are world citizens. We are self-determined. We are.... Some of us are Christians, some study€?Ancient African traditions€?, and the like- but that€™s not what matters. WE are on a mission to bring out the energy of the all-in-all! We thank God and defend our genius. No more Muted Genius- silenced student in the back of the class, the victim, employees bounded by a desk or cubicle, the "elephant" who is leashed even without the chain attached by man or woman. We seek freedom and let our spirit dance free... You are not alone: Often times we enter a room and feel all alone, but never lonely. We enter a space and look at the people around us and think, "they just don't get it". What makes you tick...what will you accept? What are you living for? What motivates you? What is your legacy? What do you represent? What company do you keep? You are never alone: We thank all of the past and present WA's Example: A Young Michael Jackson changed music forever....just look at Neyo, Usher, Chris Brown and most entertainers today would not be without his influence. A higher form of being he was. Now take a Young Michael who was a consummate Wild Afrikan and compare the Michael of today. Thats is the difference between a WA and UWA (unqualified Wild Afrikan).Questions I've asked myself? Is what you've been taught accurate? I love my mother, father, and those before, but please look into what makes you. Dare yourself to rewrite a part of your life that does not work for you or you wish would go away. Change our reality by speaking and writing a new history for yourself. Who says you can't? Tomorrow is bright if you step into the light....I'm a free thinker, mover and shaker, educator, teacher, leader, activist, entreprenuer, socialite, and the first one on the dance floor. I am human being...living the human experience. Get Your Own! | View Slideshow
