CHECK MY SET OUT ON BAD BOYS OF COMEDYIf any of you are reading my page, I know you are asking yourself.. "why does he call himself the next Robert Townsend" The answer to that question is very simple. As of about a week ago, Robert Townsend became my hero. He is a pioneer in the history of black comedy as well as black history and he is often over-looked. I recently watched Hollywood Shuffle again for the first time in years. Now that I am older, I understand what that movie was actually about. Robert Townsend directed in starred in this movie about how black people in Hollywood often take roles in which we play this stereo-typical black man or woman. Often we dont want to but because we are struggling actors and actresses and we need the money, we sell our soul for that mean green. Robert Townsend wasn't the funniest guy around and he wasnt the best actor but he had a vision and a dream for us as black comics and actors. After struggling to become that star that he wanted to be, he took things in his own hands and started to do his own movies and own shows. For example, Robert had a show that used to come on cable called Partners in Crime. For those of you who arent familiar with this show, it was basically a mixture of def comedy jam and In Living Color. A lot of the comics that we see today, got there start on this show..i.e. Tommy Davidson. This show opened the doors for the other shows that I just mentioned. A lot of people also dont know that Robert Townsend helped write and also directed Eddie Murphy's Raw. And his biggest accomplishment that we all thank him for was a movie that we ALL love. He wrote, starred and directed one of the best movies of all time. The Five Heartbeats. Robert Townsend is my hero and he's given me the extra motivation I need to be succesful. I plan on doing what he did and more and I hope to one day work with him. This is me and this is where I am in my life right now.
