A native of Montclair, New Jersey has been singing since age four. Influenced by her parents love for jazz and soul music, Shakera began performing and singing at every opportunity. Shakera moved to Philadelphia to attend Temple Universitys Esther Boyer College of Music, where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Music-concentration Jazz Voice. While attending Temple University, Shakera formed the shakerajones quartet, which includes George Burton on piano, Wayne Smith, Jr. on drums. Early performances consisted of mostly jazz standards with original arrangements.While studying for her Masters degree in Jazz Studies at the University of the Arts, Shakera began to try her hand at song writing. Since then, she has developed a style all her own winning audiences with her sultry voice, impressive range, personal lyrics and jazz/soul influenced accompaniment.Shakera has performed at all the premier jazz venues in Philadelphia, which include Ortliebs Jazz Haus, Zanzibar Blue, Chris Jazz Café, the Clef Club, and the Tri-Tone. Shakera has also had the pleasure of performing next to jazz greats like, Mickey Roker, Sid Simmons, Orrin Evans, Tim Warfield, Byron Landham, Robert Bootsie Barnes and Mike Boone.
