Dunbar who transfered to the desolate western frontier Fort Sedgwick, in the Archbishop McCarthy Territory near the the Lakota Sioux Tribe. The movie depicts Dunbar's personal experience with the Lakota Sioux people as he learns to live by their cultural traditional ways. The movie's dialogue is actually spoken in the Lakota Sioux language.Thunderheart (1992) = a fictionalization based on true events concerning Native American activist Leonard Peltier, the rise of the American Indian Movement (AIM) & the Wounded Knee Incident (February 27, 1973). Which took place at Wounded Knee, SD on the Pine Ridge Reservation, home to the Oglala Sioux.Hidalgo (2004) = is based on the tales & life story of the former Buffalo Bill stunt rider from Wild West shows (1890) Frank Hopkins (a half-breed Lakota Sioux) and his mustang horse Hidalgo. Since Frank was known as the greatest rider the West had ever known a wealthy sheik entered them into the Ocean of Fire (a 3000 mile survival race across the Arabian desert). Previously, this race had been restricted to only the finest Arabian horses ever bred of the purest & noblest lines & owned by the greatest royal families. This race is not only a matter of pride and honor for Frank & Hidalgo, but a race of survival as well.Apocalypto (2006) = depicts a Mayan enemy warrior's defiant escape & life struggle to save himself, his family & preserve their way of life during the decline of the ancient Maya civilization.
