When the woman appeared to them in the form of a white buffalo calf but as she got closer she transformed into a beautiful young woman. One warrior had bad thoughts towards her & was destroyed. The other warrior kneeled & prayed. She told him to go back to his people & inform them of her forth coming visit. The people prepared for her & she appeared to them presenting them with the Sacred Pipe & taught them songs & the traditional ways of the 7 sacred ceremonies: the Sweat Lodge (purification ceremony), the Naming Ceremony (child naming), the Healing Ceremony, the Making of Relatives (adoption ceremony), the Marriage Ceremony, the Vision Quest & the Sundance Ceremony. When White Buffalo Calf Pipe Woman was done teaching the people she walked away. My Interests

Movies:

The following movies have been profiled since they contain elements or deal with subject matters regarding the Great Sioux Nation; with the exception of Apcalypto which is a personal favorite.Dances with Wolves (1990) = an epic about Civil War Union Army Officer Lieutenant John J. Dunbar who transfered to the desolate western frontier Fort Sedgwick, in the Archbishop McCarthy Territory near the the Lakota Sioux Tribe. The movie depicts Dunbar's personal experience with the Lakota Sioux people as he learns to live by their cultural traditional ways. The movie's dialogue is actually spoken in the Lakota Sioux language.Thunderheart (1992) = a fictionalization based on true events concerning Native American activist Leonard Peltier, the rise of the American Indian Movement (AIM) & the Wounded Knee Incident (February 27, 1973). Which took place at Wounded Knee, SD on the Pine Ridge Reservation, home to the Oglala Sioux.Hidalgo (2004) = is based on the tales & life story of the former Buffalo Bill stunt rider from Wild West shows (1890) Frank Hopkins (a half-breed Lakota Sioux) and his mustang horse Hidalgo. Since Frank was known as the greatest rider the West had ever known a wealthy sheik entered them into the Ocean of Fire (a 3000 mile survival race across the Arabian desert). Previously, this race had been restricted to only the finest Arabian horses ever bred of the purest & noblest lines & owned by the greatest royal families. This race is not only a matter of pride and honor for Frank & Hidalgo, but a race of survival as well.Apocalypto (2006) = depicts a Mayan enemy warrior's defiant escape & life struggle to save himself, his family & preserve their way of life during the decline of the ancient Maya civilization.
