About Me

I'm a musician and music instructor originally from the midwest, currently teaching at the Austin Academy of Music .
I've been playing guitar for 35 years, in working bands for 29 years, been teaching for over 20, and have a tablature library of over 10,000 songs in published (not internet) formats.
Since 1977, I have been in gigging Rockabilly, Punk, Metal, Blues, Texas Country, Traditional Country, 50's-90's Rock and Country bands, as well as doing several theatre productions.
After a stint in the Midwest punk scene in the late 80's, I decided to make money (lol) & toured the country for a number of years opening for artists like The Allman Brothers, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Johnny Paycheck, Waylon Jennings, Tim McGraw, Brooks and Dunn, The Mavericks, Radney Foster, Hal Ketchum, Lee Roy Parnell, etc.
As a member of a traveling 'Grand Ole Opry' band, was fortunate enough to work with Del Reeves, Ray Price, Jean Shepard, Connie Smith, Charlie Louvin, Jim Ed Brown, Sleepy LaBeef, the Crickets, Johnny Russell, Tommy Cash, etc. etc. etc. and as a member of the 'Red Stallion Band' was featured on a Johnny Counterfit live video release.
Studio experience includes over 200 regional and national commercials, dozens of industrial and award winning independent films, as well as a piece in the Smithsonian Institute.
When I moved to Austin 6 years ago, I jumped into the Traditional Country scene, and played with:
Dane Sterling Band (www.danesterling.com)
Sunny Sweeney Band (www.sunnysweeney.com)
I played with a couple Singer/Songwriters:
Tony Fant
Rick Hornyak (www.rickhornyak.com)
And also the Texas Country scene playing with:
Dean Seltzer (www.deanseltzer.com)
Michael Shane Borden and the Diesel Kings (www.dieselkings.com)
I'm playing all the electric guitars on two of Dean's songs on his My Space page......'Anyway', and 'Lady Luck'.
As well as the electrics on Rick Hornyak's 'Ladies' on his My Space page.
I've gotten to play countless shows at the Broken Spoke, Gruene Hall, Ginny's Little Longhorn, Poodie's Hilltop, the Oaks, Riley's Tavern, both Houston and Austin rodeos, the Firehouse, etc. etc. working with such artists as Ray Price, Jimmie Vaughan, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Cory Morrow, Bleu Edmundson, Jerry Jeff Walker, the Derailers, the Mother Truckers, Jon Dee Graham, the Flatlanders, Django Walker, etc etc.
I am currently playing with Two Hoots and a Holler.
BTW, the reason for the other [mjb] on my friends list - I set that up for my guitar students. 50+ teenagers send out a lot of bulletins everyday.
