A Musical Dream

About Me

"A Musical Dream" is a masterly journey back to The Golden Age of english history. It is an exiting journey into the lovelife of Renaissance man. A lovelife surprisingly similar to ours. Thus other sounds than those of soprano, flute and guitar are heard when Trio Royal becomes a "Menage á Trois".TRIO ROYAL was founded in 2006 by soprano Birgitte Bourgois, living in Paris, flutist Pia Kaufmanas, living in Copenhagen and guitarist Finn Jacobsen living in Frederiksvaerk. "A Musicale Dreame" is a performance based on 14 Elizabethan Lovesongs arranged by Erik Norby as well as renaissance luth- and flutemusic........................................... Influences: "A Musical dream" lead us into the dark night of human despair to draw us forth into the light of hope, joy and love. The power of "Elizabethan lovesongs" lies in their capacity of reaching the strength and weakness of the human heart. All the aspects of human emotions come forth and remind us of the complicated nature of love. The emotions that Elizabethan Lovesongs produce are so strong that Erik Norby felt an urge since his early childhood to lift these gems out of oblivion - A musical dream come through.
Sounds Like: John Dowland, of English or possibly Irish origin, was born in 1563, probably in London. He was a lutenist of distinction but failed, allegedly because he was a Catholic, to win a position in the royal service, seeking his fortune abroad at Kassel and later, in 1598, at the court of Christian IV of Denmark. He was forced by debt to return to England in 1606 and eventually won appointment as one of the King's Lutes in 1612. He performed during the funeral ceremonies of King James I and himself died the following year. Dowland was the composer, in particular, of one of the best known songs of the period, Flow my teares, music much imitated, epitomising the fashionable humour of the day, melancholy. Dowland himself provided an apt pun on his own name - Dowland, semper dolens (Dowland, always grieving) - although he had a reputation as a cheerful man, yet professionally embittered by his long failure to find employment at court.
