Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to the garage makes you a car.

About Me

I was born and raised in NC by parents who were Morticians. I grew up in the public eye and was exposed to music at an early age. With my older brother, Joe B., my younger sister, Gwendolyn and two family friends, we started our first band, The Majestics, when I was 14 years old.
I began as a drummer but I always knew I had the talent to sing. When I went away to Saint Augustine's College, I sang lead with a group called The Mellow Kings and played drums with a band called Gene Scott & The Twilighters.
During the summer of my Sophomore year of college, I toured Canada with Gene Scott & The Twilighters. While we were there, the singer became ill. I knew his show and one of the horn players could play drums. "The Show Must Go On", and indeed, it did! I enjoyed singing out front so much that I stopped playing drums altogether when we returned to The States. I've been singing since then and loving it. There is nothing like the connection between a singer and the audience. It is addictive.
I lived in Philadelphia when Philadelphia was the music capital of the world. I was fortunate enough to know some very influential people in the music industry who gave me the encouragement and a platform from which to display my talent. I was also fortunate enough to have John Edwards for my songwriting partner, Yvette and Angela Davis for my backup singers, Gene Leone for my recording engineer and the MFSB Family for the orchestra on my Lasso recording sessions.
There was a period that I was away from actively participating in my passion, however. I was married and the father of two lovely daughters. I chose to be at home with them during their formative years. I recorded a few songs that were released regionally in the USA but in many European countries. My following is basically in Europe. You can Google Bobby Cutchins and get an idea how well my music does in foreign countries. I have plans to release another project in the near future. Wish me luck!
My advice to young artists and those who desire to be in the music business is to live your dream and follow your heart, but be wise about it. Learn about the business of music as well as the art of music. Realize that you must survive until your dream is a reality, so work and network. Meet as many people in the industry as you can. Remember that music is one of the most competitive fields that you can become involved in, so be honest with yourself. You either have IT or you don't. "Break A Leg"!!!! ..

Music:

I like music from the 60s through the 80s. There is some Hip Hop that I like because some of it is truly art. However, I don't think that Hip Hop has served us to it's full potential. I believe that when you get a lot of people to listen to you, you must have something positive to say to them.
Too many Hip Hop artists misuse their influence with the negative lyrics and images that they present in their CDs and videos. If you don't respect yourself and your people, who else will?
Young people are misguided by the "bling bling" and the flashy cars and scantily clad young ladies in the videos, not realizing that a lot of the jewelry is fake and that some of the cars are just props that have been borrowed or leased for the video shoot. These negative images and lyrics influence how people perceive us as a race and how we are treated from day to day.
I like all genres of music to a certain extent but I chose Rhythm and Blues to sing. I like to listen to traditional gospel music and I sing with a Community Male Chorus that is made up of guys from all of the neighborhood churches. This is one of my greatest joys today.

Movies:

I like movies like Roots, Rosewood, Mandingo and Drum because they focus on the struggles that my people have always had to endure. I like Malcolm X (the movie and the man) and Martin Luther King. They remind me to always strive to overcome the obstacles that have been a part of our existence since the beginning. It is movies like these that keep me aware of who I am and where I am going.
On the lighter side, I like comedies, dramas and a good love story once in a while. Naturally, I can get into a good musical as well. You could sum it up and say that I love the Arts. I am easy to entertain.
