i am a black woman
I am a black woman
the music of my song
some sweet arpeggio of tears
is written in a minor key
and I
can be heard humming in the night
Can be heard
humming
in the night
I saw my mate leap screaming to the sea
and I/with these hands/cupped the lifebreath
from my issue in the canebrake
I lost Nat's swinging body in a rain of tears
and heard my son scream all the way from Anzio
for Peace he never knew....I
learned Da Nang and Pork Chop Hill
in anguish
Now my nostrils know the gas
and these trigger tire/d fingers
seek the softness in my warrior's beard
I am a black woman
tall as a cypress
strong
beyond all definition still
defying place
and time
and circumstance
assailed
impervious
indestructible
Look
on me and be
renewed

SpiritualGraphics.comI was told at an early age that I have the wisdom of the elders. I love the Lord with all of my heart and soul with the very being of my soul. I tell my people to keep in mind the devil is real and wants you to burn with him, still not believing? Well if you gotta believe in something please believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. "Believe that"!Well I love my family with the joy of loving the Lord. I tell my family that I love them but they know I put no man before my God. We are a loving group of people who all was taught to tell about the Lord everywhere we go.I love people. I once was told by someone older than myself I was bubbly always so cheerful, I can't see myself being no other way. I'm happy even when I'm sick. I've always been Blessed with good jobs. The Lord has always taken care of me even when things seem to be going wrong the Lord would make a way out of no way. That is why I can say I am a true believer just like back in the days when the Lord walked this old earth He preformed miracles even back then. I know He's working one in my life.I like myspace I should have done this a long time ago but was a little scared that some people would not do right on here. I have no control of that! so I decided to move forward. I LOVE IT!!I love to take walks in the morning and SHOPPING man I love to shop."Oh did I mention that I am an artist by nature. I remember drawing on the ground when I was a child and everyone wanted to draw like me. When I was in high school I was offered the Opportunity to travel to New York City, to attend an Art School free of charges. Well my mother God rest her soul, she was just a bit unsettling about sending her baby girl to that great big city besides she had to work to take care of my other siblings. Even back then I never worried her about going, I just fell back into my shell but I still would draw people and did projects at school where I got praises from the school factuality and students. Everyone knew that I could draw and there it stands I never pursued it any futher.I had an ingury once where I had to be bed ridden so I started looking in books and it came to me to make a tree out of silk flowers and there the love of putting together silk flowers to make weddings came to pass. I love weddings and making the bridal flowers out of silk is great! we learned that you will always have a part of your wedding flowers to have and to hold.BLACK AND BLESSED NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT IN LIFE THATN BELIEF IN THE VALUE OF YOURSELF AND YOUR CULTURE. IN THE DAYS OF OUR ELDERS, THERE WAS SOME TALK ABOUT SELF-PRIDE, SELF DETERMINATION, AND SELF WORTH, BUT NOT WITH THE FREQUENCY WE HEAR TODAY. THINK ABOUT IT. THEY DIDN'T NEED TO SAY IT BECAUSE THEY BELIEVED IN THEMSELVES AND IN OUR BLOODLINE. THEY BELIEVED THAT WE'RE ALL ON LIFE'S JOURNEY -WHATEVER OUR HUE. ON THIS COMMON JOURNEY, SOME OF US WOULD HIT THE MARK, AND SOME OF US WOULDN'T. THOSE SUCCESSES AND FAILURES WERE A QUESTION OF CHARACTER AND HARD WORK, NOT OF COLOR. THEY DID NOT BELIEVE THAT ANYONE, OR ANY RACE, WAS BETTER THATN BLACK FOLKS. THEY DID NOT TALK BLACKNESS - THEY LIVED IT EVERY DAY OF THEIR LIVES WITH A SENSE OF DIGNITY AND PRIDE. OUR ELDERS DIDN'T HARP ON THE IDEA OD RACE, BECAUSE THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT COULD NOT BE CHANGED. AND WHO WOULD IF THEY COULD? BEING BLACK WASN'T THE CURSE SOME FOLKS THOUGHT IT TO BE. OUR ELDERS HAD FUN BEING BLACK. THEY WERE PROUD OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR OWN AND THEY DIDN'T CARE WHO KNEW IT. ROBERT FLEMINGI AM PROUD OF WHO I AM AND OF WHO WE ARE. TODAY I WILL CELEBRATE THE UNIQUNESS OF MY CULTURE......
