Grace Cathedral Park formed in the winter of 2002 as a collaboration among nine people wanting to create something beautiful and inimitable. Their debut album, "In the Evenings of Regret," is, in a word, stunning. They do not dwell or dominate, but tiptoe gingerly, then sweep grandly, swallowing up listeners. The band has been compared to Mogwai, Low, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Explosions in the Sky. Like those bands, they will catch you off guard with epic-length songs that simmer just below the surface before swelling into arresting climaxes. "In the Evenings of Regret" consists of only six tracks, but clocks in at an impressive 77 minutes of music -- a tremendous force underlying the seemingly fragile casing.

Sounds Like: Described by one of our music editors as, "Deadman mixed with Explosions In the Sky or like if Explosions in the Sky actually sounded like they are from Texas," this pillowy psychedelic dream rock is 100% intoxicating, leaving their listeners breathless and star-struck. With a longwinded approach to musical journeys, their songs stretch and expand over giagantic territory, arching over oceans and mountain ranges of emotion, thoughts and fleeting urges. There is something undeniably and unexplainably organic and necessary about the music of Grace Cathedral Park- as if somewhere in space, these songs always existed and merely needed the human beings to realize them. Look no further for instrumental rock perfection. -cdbaby review
