Unspeakable Joy

Glorifying God through our music

About Me

Their name "Unspeakable Joy" is evidence of profound wisdom found in these four young people. In the summer of 2004 five girls found their passion for bluegrass music. Over the last two years, changes caused five girls to switch to the present three girls and one guy: sisters Courtney and Cassie, and sister and brother Sylvia and Lawrence. Don’t be fooled by their young ages; they display a maturity beyond their years. Their music is truly a “New Song”, taking a combination of traditional bluegrass and gospel and adding their own unique style. From fast paced fiddle favorites to contemplative sacred numbers this group keeps you coming back for more. "Unspeakable Joy", comes from the Bible verse 1 Peter 1:8 "Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory." Their goal is to glorify God through their talents and share it with others. The group skillfully blends voices and instruments: fiddle, mandolin, penny whistle, banjo, guitar, and string bass. Influences: We have been privileged to be under the instruction of many talented musicians. From a very young age all of us have taken some form of music lessons. We must give credit to our teachers Susan (Violin, Cello), Dr. Jon & Mr. Dana (Piano), Phillip (Mandolin), David (String Bass), Jimmy Mill’s Banjo DVD! As musicians we are always trying to improve our sound. We love to listen to many different excellent performers that inspire us to excel. Musicians' recordings from the past like Scruggs, Flats, and Monroe, as well as from the present, Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer, Jimmy Mills, and Andy Leftwich, are always in our car and home CD players.
