Hank George is the musical alter ego of Hendrik G. Herlyn (I’d say stage name, except I don’t usually get allowed up on stage … :) ).
I am a writer, translator, ornithologist, birder, mycologist, naturalist, hiker, camper, trout fisherman, bicyclist, environmentalist, world traveler, cat lover, song writer, illustrator, hobby chef, oenophile, ravenous reader, and too many other things to mention. Singing and playing the guitar is really not what I do best, but it is fun and I enjoy it a lot. I started out strumming a few chords during those long and drunken Friday night sessions many years ago with my favorite uncle, who needed a “rhythm guitarist†while he would pick the banjo … well, I was there, so he taught me. Belting out Irish folk songs and old Country and Western tunes, I caught a bug which I've never lost since, even though I fit a hell of a lot better around a campfire than on a stage. As Hank, I’m mostly Folk and Country – as Hendrik, I am just about everything, from Classical to Reggae to Deadhead, from Jazz to Blues to good old Rock'n'Roll.
When I play, I mostly cover other people’s songs – the ones I write are usually for my partner of 14 years, Oscar, who’s the “real†musician of the family. In my spare time, I am also the manager of his great band Haunted Man - check out their MySpace profile!
Together with our four cats, we usually call beautiful Oregon our home, although we’re currently on an extended sabbatical in Greifswald, Germany on the shores of the Baltic Sea.
