The idea for Gene's Addiction first took root in 1992. Joe "Dredd" Lockett was looking to form a fun, KISS band unlike any other. A band where every member were to be Gene Simmons. He had mentioned this idea to "Seattle's Godfather of Metal" Jeff Gilbert with the band name to be Gene's Addiction. With the upcoming release of KISS Alive III, Jeff wanted to have a ZROCK listening party and offered a slot for the band to take form and present themselves to the public.
And on that note Joe took about forming the band. There are rules to a Gene's Addiction show.
1. No platforms
2. No costumes
3. No glitter
4. Rock the shit out of the audience and leave them wanting more.
5. There will be blood, and fire whenever possible. (Thanks to Great White)In the summer of 1993 Gene's Addiction became a reality.
Since then they have played only a handful of shows, refuse to tour or take themselves too seriously.
To this date they've played a total of 7 shows. Never venturing outside of Seattle. They DO NOT tour.Susan Silver informed Gene of the band and a wheel was set into motion.
Joe has met Gene twice with the second meeting coming after he and Gene had been in communication via mail after the first show.
"Gene got a video tape of our first live show and he gave me a cassettes tape of 2 KISS shows in clubs from late '73" Joe brags.Gene even wore their band shirt in a photo shoot for Metal Edge magazine.
The original band photo can be found in KISStory 1 in the tribute section.Since then the name "Gene's Addiction" has been recognized around the world (just ask Matt Fox).
A Gene Simmons fan base has used the name "Gene's Addiction" and Gene himself used it for an episode of Gene Simmons' Family Jewels."It's all about having fun and rocking those old KISS tunes that we've loved for all these years" tells Joe."Plus it gives me a chance to be Gene and stomp around the stage with an enormous ego" he added.
