About Me

I'm one half of DANA & CARL, hosts of THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO, the self-described Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet, Sunday nights from 9 to midnight Eastern (with reruns during the day on Wednesday), all streaming at www.westcottradio.org outta Syracuse. We've put together two THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO compilation CDs for JAM Recordings, featuring lots of great tracks from The Flashcubes, The Cowsills, John Wicks & the Records, DM3, The Lolas, The Spongetones, The Rooks and many others; both CDs are still available from CD Baby.As a freelance writer, I've contributed to Goldmine magazine, and written liner notes for various cool rockin' pop acts and for Rhino Records' power pop anthology Poptopia! Power Pop Classics Of The '90s. I've contributed to the books MusicHound Rock, Bubblegum Music Is The Naked Truth, Lost In The Grooves and the forthcoming power pop omnibus, Shake Some Action. My family has shown a remarkable willingness to put up with my quirks, and I love 'em for it.

My Interests

Rock 'n' roll (especially power pop, melodic punk, British Invasion and garage), comic books, mystery novels, Syracuse University men's basketball

I'd like to meet:

Bill Clinton and Micky Dolenz--howZAT for a combo?

Music:

My three favorites are always The Beatles, The Ramones and The Flashcubes...ALWAYS! After that, the list of fave raves goes on and on: The Monkees, The Four Tops, KISS, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Badfinger, The Kinks, Gene Pitney, The Dave Clark Five, The Raspberries, The Bay City Rollers, The Undertones, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, The Hollies, The Sex Pistols, Wilson Pickett, The Archies, The Jam, Big Star, The Searchers, The Beach Boys, NY Dolls, Johnny Thunders, The Yardbirds, Fools Face, The Lyres, The Barracudas, The Easybeats, The Go-Go's, The Poptarts, Screen Test, The Flamin' Groovies, The Byrds, The Bobby Fuller Four, The Knickerbockers, The dB's, The Remains, The Skeletons, The Beau Brummels, The Records, The Dead Boys, Otis Redding, Toots & the Maytals, Elvis (Presley and Costello), Eddie Cochran, Artful Dodger, The Plimsouls, Shoes, The Romantics, The Spongetones, Stiv Bators and hell YEAH I could keep goin' for quite a while...!

Movies:

Fave remains A Hard Day's Night, which I saw in its original run at the local drive-in when I was four years old. Other perennials are It's A Wonderful Life, early Marx Brothers stuff (for Paramount), and I'm oddly addicted to That Thing You Do!

Television:

Classic: The Monkees, The Green Hornet, What's My Line?, first two seasons of The Adventures Of Superman, Batman, Shindig!Recently departed: Gilmore Girls, The Bronx Is BurningCurrent: Heroes (my favorite!), Smallville, Reaper, Mad Men, Bionic Woman, Back To You, Pushing Daisies. I've finally succumbed to American Idol--I feel so...ordinary. Plus, EVERYTHING stops when Syracuse University men's basketball is on.

Books:

Favorite writers include Harlan Ellison, Max Allan Collins, Sue Grafton and Sara Paretsky.

Heroes:

Too many to list, both real and imaginary; inspiration's everywhere, kinda like Chickenman (HE'S EVERYWHERE! HE'S EVERYWHERE!)
