About Me
The three members of Acoustic Triangle have significant backgrounds in European 'classical' music and also in jazz. The trio's music contains a wide variety of influences - from ancient themes and folk styles through impressionism and the jazz era to the avant-garde. Emphasis is put on melody, extended structured composition, spontaneous improvisation and interaction between the players. No amplification of any kind is used in the trio's performances. ............................................................
.....................................................Much of the trio's current repertoire has been penned by Tim Garland and Gwilym Simcock. There is a seamlessness in the group's music; the spontaneous elements have become integrated into the compositions, resulting
in a harmonious performance which is a long way from conventional theme and variations-style jazz. Sometimes it is hard to decide whether they are playing written music or improvising.

c Triangle has appeared in many fine concert halls, arts centres and festivals, but some of the most memorable concerts have been in churches. So Malcolm Creese decided to set up a tour celebrating beautiful sacred buildings - from small chapels to huge cathedrals. The 2005 Tour of Sacred Places was a huge success and Acoustic Triangle has now established a unique reputation for performing in such buildings.
............................................................
.....................................................The group's philosophy says that if you include the buildings in your thinking at every stage in the creative process, the results will be profoundly more successful. Instead of just transporting whatever music they might normally play into a large church for example, the players compose, rehearse, and perform with careful regard for the space itself. They pick the programme on the day of the concert - once they have 'tried out' the building and gained a feel for its sonic qualities and general ambience.

c Triangle has appeared in concert with the Sacconi String Quartet and with jazz soloists such as Martin France, Lianne Carroll and Gerard Presencer. On Ascension Day in 2006, Acoustic Triangle was invited to play in Westminster Abbey. Tim Garland composed a new piece for the occasion - Jubilate Deo - for the trio with the Abbey choir. There was also an appearance on ITV in a recent episode of Lewis - the follow-up to Inspector Morse. Tim Garland was the soloist with The BBC Concert Orchestra at the first performance his own saxophone concerto in 2004. The following year Tim composed a piano concerto for Gwilym which received its first performance at The Sage, Gateshead with The Northern Sinfonia Orchestra.
