BiographySummer 2001: In the Bavarian town of Maisach (near Munich), an organizer was searching for bands to play on his music festival. He asked his friend René Berthiaume (guitar) if he and his band wanted to play there. René actually didn't have a band at that time, but he agreed and gathered a few musicians from his area. He recruited Helge Stang (vocals), Henning Stein (drums), Michael Heidenreich (keys), Andreas Völkl (guitar) and Sandra Völkl (bass).
They quickly learned a bunch of songs orginally done by popular bands, and played a successful gig. They decided to stick together to create some of their own music. Not knowing which direction the band would take, they called themselves Equilibrium, but soon it became obvious that influences of Dark, Pagan, Black and Melodic Metal would heavily determine their music. This resulted in a sound they themselves refer to as "Epic Viking Metal". The group played more gigs and acquired an increasing number of followers.
The first lineup change was in the summer of 2002, when keyboardist Michael Heidenreich had to leave the band for personal reasons. He was replaced by Conny Stein. However, when Henning Stein had problems with his health and had to stop drumming at the beginning of 2003, a replacement was far from sight. For their rehearsals the band recorded a drum playback and, to keep performing live, they used it at gigs. Still without someone behind the drums they recorded a demo CD, which has received very positive responses.
A few months later, the drum playback tape went into the trash can when Julius Koblitzek joined forces with the band. Unfortunately, only half a year later the next knockback came: keyboardist Conny left the band due to a lack of time. This left the band with five members: Helge Stang (vocals), René Berthiaume and Andreas Völkl (guitars), Sandra Völkl (bass) and Julius Koblitzek (drums).
In November 2003, Equilibrium finally signed a deal with Black Attakk Records, and in the summer of 2004, the recordings for their debut album started. However, after the band's first festival gig at the German Summerbreeze Festival, drummer Julius left the band, resulting in several cancelled gigs. Nonetheless, the debut album "Turis Fratyr" was released in February 2005. At about the same time a new drummer joined the band. Basti Kriegl played a few gigs with the band before he departed as well--the third drummer in three years to leave the band.
June 2005: For the first time in two years the band had a complete lineup again. Markus Perschke took over drums and Armin Dörfler from Darkseed took over the keys. However, both Markus and Armin left the band in 2006.
2007: The current lineup is now Helge Stang (vocals), René Berthiaume and Andreas Völkl (guitars), Sandra Völkl (bass), and Manuel DiCamillo (drums). The band is currently in the studio working on their next album titled "Sagas".
